Mark doesn’t want to stand out in new ‘Dark Artifices’ snippet

Cassandra Clare keeps the Dark Artifices snippets coming.

Check out this new snippet from Lady Midnight, the first book in The Dark Artifices, where Mark tells Cristina that he wants to look like his family and doesn’t want to stand out.

Now he looked at her sideways. “You don’t think I look like a Shadowhunter any more?”

“Do you want to?” Cristina asked.

“I want to look like my family,” Mark said. “I cannot have the Blackthorn coloring, but I can look as much like Nephilim as possible. Besides, if I wish to be part of the investigation, I cannot stand out.”

Cristina held back from telling Mark that there was no world in which he didn’t stand out. “I can make you look like a Shadowhunter.”

The Dark ArtificesLady Midnight will be released in 2015/16.

Oh, poor Mark. I’m really feel for him.

  2. Soooooo…… I feel like I’m getting a feel for the plot of the story. As in the earlier snippet, Julian and Emma are somehow separated and Mark -with Cristina Rosalses help – will join an investigation…….

Is it just me, or does this story take place 5 years after CoHF, which means it is time for the Accords? Am I wrong, or are the faeries done with the Clave’s restrictions? This is getting more interesting with each new snippet.

    • I think your onto somthing!

      • You know now i know why the characters from the “dark artifices” were so involved in city of heavenly fire because in a way it was meant to be a set up for that series bc we get a hint about who the Blackthorn family are who Emma carstairs is (if im not mistaken is probably related to Jem Carstairs from the infernal devices) and seeing things from there point of view as well as the built up of their unresolved issues that will follow in this upcoming trilogy. I could be wrong but thats just my theory and i think it was very smart for Cassandra to introduce some more new characters rather than just pull them out of nowhere bc you can tell that there is a history between them and the other shadowhunter families.

    • I do believe the investigation Mark and Cristina help with is about the dead Shadowhunters and Faeries that are being found in LA. Which is mentioned in a sneak peak in the back of CoHF.

Yes, TDA starts five years after TMI (CoHF). But it is not time for the Accords in TDA. The Accord take place every fifteen years. If you remember all the way back to CoB, that was the time of the Accords. Thats why we didn’t meet Mayrse, Robert and Max Lightwood until CoA because they were in Idris for the Accords during CoB.

Also the restrictions the Clave have put on the faeries at the end of CoHF is nowhere near done. As I mentioned already there is a sneak peak for TDA in the back of CoHF, if you haven’t read it I highly recommend looking it up. It is a letter (written on a leaf) from the Faerie Court to Arthur Blackthorn head of the Los Angeles Institute asking for help and in exchange they would give back Mark Blackthorn.

I’m excited for Mark’s plot line for TDA as well as his family’s and newcomers Cristina and Jaime. I wonder if Mark and Cristina will get together.

  4. Shold i start shipping Mark x Christina. Does the wgolet him ild unt

  5. I mean does the wild hunt let him go

  6. Based on how it said “Christina held back from telling Mark that there was no world in which he didn’t stand out.” I am guessing their is a love interest going on between the two, but I may be way off because I haven’t of anything else from TDA, but it seems like she likes him but he has yet to notice her. I can’t believe this series doesn’t come out until 2016, I don’t know how long I can wait.
