‘Mortal Instruments’ Television Show Gets A Title

Shadowhunters

With a new entertainment medium comes a new name for The Mortal Instruments.

The Mortal Instruments television show, or #TMITV as we’ve all been calling it, will be titled Shadowhunters.

Author Cassandra Clare shared the news on Twitter.

I actually love that they’re giving the TV a different name. It’s not a name that is unfamiliar to fans of the books; it’s a name that fits the story well; and it’s a name that separates it from the movie adaptation. Also, short is sweet when it comes to TV.

Shadowhunters also opens the door for further exploration of Clare’s other series, including The Infernal Devices. How cool would it be to see flashbacks of Will Herondale, Jem Carstairs and co., and possibly a spinoff show if Shadowhunters does well? Now, I know I’m getting way ahead of myself, but the possibilities are endless if Shadowhunters is done right.

Shadowhunters is set to begin production this year. The show, helmed by Ed Decter, will feature hour-long episodes on a network that has yet to be announced.

What do you think of the title Shadowhunters?

Personally I like it. It helps those who loved the books but aren’t following it too closely. I am noticing that the tv show has so much potential. I hope they go the right direction

  2. I will take it! 🙂 I’ve been chompin’ at the bit for at least some form of small TMITV news and it seems the ball is starting to roll a bit 🙂 ❤

  3. Honestly I don’t care what it is called as long as they make the book JUSTICE. I just really wish Robert Sheehan would come back as Simon. HE was PERFECT.

Reblogged this on Jul Book Lover.

  5. I sure hope they don’t mess it up because I’ve heard some not-so-good rumours about age of characters and plot and history and idk….

  6. Sounds good so far. We will have to wait and see what happens next.

  7. I agree with you, I’ve been hearing nothing but good news about the upcoming tv show and I’m very excited. This seems like a simple and smart change

  8. I loved the movie. I hope they bring the same cast. I’m so attached to them I won’t be able to shift gears.

  9. It’s encouraging to see that they’ve focused on the central theme. 🙂 Now let’s see if they can stay on track.

  10. Wait…. What station is Shadowhunters going to be shown on?

They don’t know yet. I hope on a premium channel of some sort, but if that happens, I won’t be able to watch it. No premium channels (like HBO and stuff) in Belgium. 😦

There is a website called solarmovie where you can watch tv shows anywhere in the world for free 🙂

  11. I actually like it. It means the show is not just limited to a specific book series. Instead it can be all the book series and as the books continue so can the show.

  12. Well, I think that “Mortal instruments” is better title then “Shadowhunters”, but everybody understands why Constantin Films decided to change it. New project -> new name -> new cast. By the way, I hope that they will find a good cast. And I hope they won’t change the plot.

sounds like a cool change hope they stick to the same plot as the book and i hope they keep the cast as when i was reading the books and then watched the movie tat was my dream cast and were it said flash backs to will, jem and tessa it sounds like an epic idea

  14. i dont mind the tv show as long as they keep true to the book and the writers for the show dont mess it up like other books turned tv show. i can only see till after the show premieres!!! its scary to think how they will make it. hehe

  15. This is a very good thing, as it gives a better idea on what the show’s about and the feelings/themes of it.

Plus, if they wanted to do an Infernal Devices series, for example, they could simply call it “Shadowhunters: The Infernal Devices” or something like that, which works rather well, all things considered.

The “A Song of Ice and Fire” books got called “Game of Thrones” in their TV show adaptation–and have obviously done tremendously–so hopefully TMI will follow in the same light:)

Also, when I originally was going to watch The Mortal Instruments movie with a friend one time, he ended up thinking it was going to be a musical, because of the “instruments” part of the title.

Yeah… calling it Shadowhunters, is for the best bet, I think. Especially in that one of the reasons the film did so horribly was because no one had ANY idea about what it was supposed to be about.

It could work well with the many spinoff shows we might end up getting, too.

  16. I love this!!! The books are so in depth, it gives so much room for a great show!!!!! I can’t wait!!

  17. I can’t wait for the tv series. I just wish that they would keep the same cast as the movies. I fell for them all.!!!

  18. i really like where they are going with this

  19. I just hope they stick to the books. They are amazing and there’s no need to change it. I think that’s why the movie did so badly because so much form the book was changed or taken out. The books go so in depth that I don’t think there’s a need to change anything. Clare did an outstanding job. She gave the writers and producers all they need, and I really hope they don’t change anything. I’m SO excited!!!! ….. If they do it right.

  20. I hope they they use the same Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle from the movie, they were the best.

Yes! Love the title, love the idea of a TV show to get more details into the story.
When talking about casting from the movie… please keep Simon (Robert Sheehan). Clary (Lilly Collins) was ok, but someone like AnnaSophia Robb would be better, smaller and more petite. Ok, even if most of the cast from the movie is kept, please please PLEASE recast Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower). He was not right for the part. Pick someone more like Alex Pettyfer. Strong features, exudes masculinity, golden tones. PLEASE.
I love this book series and I love the idea of a TV show!

I THINK THE T.V SHOW WILL DO WELL AS LONG AS THEY DON CHANGE TO MUCH OF THE STORY LINE. THE BOOKS WERE GREAT, SO IF THEY STAY TRUE TO THE BOOKS, THIS SHOW COULD RUN FOREVER AND NEVER GET BOREING. SO LETS ALL HOPE THEY DO. AS FOR THE CAST, I HOPE THEY CAN GET THEM ALL BACK, THEY DID A GREAT JOB WITH WHAT THEY
HAD TO WORK WITH. IF THEY ARE NOT RETURNG THEN I HOPE THE NEW CAST WILL BE AS GOOD.

  23. i like it the name
