Cassandra Clare to Publish New Series Centered Around Magnus Bane
Our favorite high warlock is getting a new series.
Following Magnus Bane’s adventures in The Bane Chronicles, Cassandra Clare is following up with a new adult series that will explore the life and times of Magnus Bane.
The three-book series will be co-written by bestselling author Wesley Chu with the first book set for a November 2017 release.
“Over the years writing the Shadowhunter books, Magnus Bane has emerged as one of the most fun and fascinating characters for me to bring to life,” said Cassandra Clare. “He’s always had a lot of secrets — there are so many things we don’t know about Magnus, from the story of his first love, to the secrets of his parentage, to the beginning of his relationship with Alec. All those are things I was able to touch on in The Bane Chronicles, but I’m excited to dig in even more deeply in these three volumes devoted to Magnus, his past, his future, and his present.”
Wesley Chu added, “I am so excited to contribute to the world that Cassandra Clare has created. These books and characters are iconic, and Magnus is a fan favorite. I can’t wait to give them all the things they deserve. And probably a few they don’t. Sorry, Magnus.”
“Magnus Bane has quickly become one of the most complex and iconographic characters in fantasy,” said Chanda, “I am sure fans will be thrilled find out more about his life and times. I certainly am!”
Are you excited for this new Magnus Bane series?!

So beautiful **
Adult Series??? Does this mean that the writing will have more adult themes , not appropriate for her younger readers? A little confused by the reference.
OMG I’m wondering that now too! Please let us be able to read it Cassie! 😣😣😣
Probably – Didn’t Cassie’s YA editor deem Malec intimate scenes to be too racy? Original fans should be in their 20s now, at least. It’s not like non-adults are banned from buying the book anyway, lol.
Since it is a new adult series, I’m sure it will have more adult themes, In all honesty though I’m glad it will, hopefully then Cassandra will branch out into the adult genre. Like Kate/Kili mentioned a lot of the original fans are in their 20’s myself included.
I’m definitely not going to read it. I couldn’t finish the boring bane chronicles. Magnus is fun as a supporting character, but his past adventures are just not relevant to me.
If my life wasn’t beautiful enough to have the Last Hours, Wicked Powers and Dark Artifices to look forward too, now is there not one more reason for living?
To be honest I would have liked more a book about Tessa through the years or a book about the Circle, because we already have a bookbwith Magnus’ story. But I’ll definitely read the trilogy!
I agree… but I’m still going to read them 🙂
That is a cool idea. Please be more Tessa in our future (preferably with Will)!
OMG OMG OMG I CAN’T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!! xD xD xD We get three volumes?! This is beyond great!!! Thanks Alyssa for this article, I wouldn’t have heard about it till way later if you hadn’t put it up 😀 My day has been made, and my fangirling done for this afternoon 🙂 But how can I stop fangirling?! I saw her tweet early this morning and I was like ‘what is this about?’. I didn’t know that this is what she meant. I’m so out of it lately. Ah Magnus!!! I’m so excited! (Is it weird that I’ve already made space on my shelves for her unpublished works?)
THIS IS THE BEST NEWS I’VE HEARD IN A WHILE OH MY GOD
YAS!!!!! MAGNUS BANE HIGH WARLOCK OF BROOKLYN IS THE BEST CHARACTER EVER!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE HIM SOOOOOO MUCH! And hopefully we get more MALEC!!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍 Can you tell that I’m excited?? CAUSE I AM!!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!! ❤️💗❤️💗❤️

Omg! So excited, can’t wait to read it! Love your books!😃
When you say “new adult,” do you mean new ADULT (like never-before-seen adult series) or NEW ADULT (the genre NA)?
This has been mixing me up since the genre got named. They really could have called it something with less room for ambiguity.
this is amazing
Know what I’m most interested in here… the far future. A future where Alec is gone and it’s Magnus and their child left. Not because I’m cruel, but the future is intriguing.
I’m looking forward to the series, but kind of undecided because why would we need 3 whole books? Isn’t that just a little too much, especially if they are all in 1 timeline (unless they are all short like TBC, but then, why call it a series?)
