‘Shadowhunters’ SDCC 2017 Interview: Emeraude Toubia & Alberto Rosende
As Shadowhunters nears the close of its second season, we’re gearing up for a seriously intense and emotional season finale that’s sure to shake things up for the show and these characters moving forward.
We spoke with Shadowhunters stars Emeraude Toubia and Alberto Rosende at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this month, where they teased what we can expect in these final episodes.
For Simon, it’s been quite an emotional year as he’s gone from mundane to vampire to Daylighter and from friend to boyfriend and back to friend while dealing with the combined stress of both aspects. And yet, Simon has continued to remain strong in the face of adversity.
“You’re not just strong,” Rosende said. “You’re given moments of weakness, and then through that you can find strength. You can choose strength. And that’s what Simon did. He had a moment where he was destroyed, shattered, and instead of running away from the relationship he held close – that put him in that position – he found strength enough to be like, I promise we’re going to be friends and I’m going to figure that out. But I need to figure out me right now.”
As for Sizzy, we know that we can expect more of that slow burn romance that we’ve been seeing. We can expect more of Simon and Izzy “building a strong foundation on friendship” before things progress romantically.
But even though we haven’t gotten a ton of Sizzy interactions in the first two seasons, the significance of that relationship is not lost on Toubia and Rosende. They admire the comfort level that Simon and Isabelle have with each other.
“I feel like when they’re with each other they don’t have to pretend to be someone else,” Toubia said.
“They’re very much at ease with each other,” Rosende chimed in. “Think about it, Izzy doesn’t know Simon very well. But she was able to tell him she was a Yin Fen addict before she even told a lot of her family. Simon was the person that she trusted with that. And Simon was a person of complete non-judgment…You look for that ease.”
