Cover Reveal: ‘Chain of Gold’ by Cassandra Clare hits shelves on November 19, 2019!

The Dark Artifices ended last week, but Cassandra Clare’s fans still have two whole trilogies to look forward to: The Last Hours and The Wicked Powers. The Wicked Powers focuses on the events after Queen of Air and Darkness as well as the final two Ghosts of the Shadow Market short stories whereas The Last Hours is the ‘sequel’ to The Infernal Devices. It is set in London and several other places in 1903 and features Will and Tessa’s children James and Lucie, their parabatai Matthew Fairchild and Cordelia Carstairs and many more characters, some of whom we’ve already met in The Bane Chronicles, Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy and Ghosts of the Shadow Market. Many readers have been waiting for Cassie’s fourth The Shadowhunter Chronicles trilogy since she announced it back in 2013 and the time has finally come to share the release date and the cover of Chain of Gold with you guys.
Cassie revealed the cover during her Los Angeles tour stop and fans who couldn’t be there saw the reveal on PolandBananasBooks‘ (aka Christine Riccio) YouTube channel. The cover is stunning so – to quote Loki from Avengers – feast your eyes:

Hello Cordelia! The cover is so, so gorgeous! Is it just me or do Cassie’s covers just get more and more pretty? Kudos to Cliff Nielsen for giving us another fantatic cover.
I love how it’s somehow similar to Emma’s Lady Midnight cover: both are wearing dresses in a light colour and are of course holding Cortana.
The fence in the background is definitely the gates in front of Kensington Palace in London, which is reminiscent of the backgrounds for The Infernal Devices covers.
Futhermore, Cassie shared the release date: Chain of Gold, the first novel in The Last Hours trilogy, is published on November 19, 2019! That’s in 342 days 😀

Edited to add:

After her event in Los Angeles, Cassie shared the cover on her Instagram:

I also have a very interesting synopsis for you:

Welcome to Edwardian London, a time of electric lights and long shadows, the celebration of artistic beauty and the wild pursuit of pleasure, with demons waiting in the dark. For years there has been peace in the Shadowhunter world. James and Lucie Herondale, children of the famous Will and Tessa, have grown up in an idyll with their loving friends and family, listening to stories of good defeating evil and love conquering all. But everything changes when the Blackthorn and Carstairs families come to London…and so does a remorseless and inescapable plague.

James Herondale longs for a great love, and thinks he has found it in the beautiful, mysterious Grace Blackthorn. Cordelia Carstairs is desperate to become a hero, save her family from ruin, and keep her secret love for James hidden. When disaster strikes the Shadowhunters, James, Cordelia and their friends are plunged into a wild adventure which will reveal dark and incredible powers, and the true cruel price of being a hero…and falling in love.

I cannot wait! November 19, 2019 cannot come soon enough!

You can pre-order Chain of Gold here (other links to follow).

What do you think of the cover and how excited are you for The Last Hours? 😀

  1. It’s gorgeous! I love it and I can’t wait to learn more about Cordelia and the others 🙂 Only 11 months away with Red Scrolls and the final two GOTSM to tie us over till then ♥️

  2. I’m glad that there is more to come. Cassie’s visions keep me sane.

BTW, I’ve finished Queen of Air and Darkness and truly appreciate the suffering that Cassie went through to create 892 pages (that includes the pages comprising the Long Conversation’s conslusion) of reading pleasure. To avoid spoilers, I’ll only say that there are at least 2 cliff hangers at the conclusion of the tome. So I’m especially looking forward to The Wicked Powers to see how they are resolved.

  3. I love it! It is so freaking gorgeous!

Ps: the reference to Loki pleases me very much.

  4. we shall finally know why the Herondales owe the Carstairs
