Cassandra Clare shares first ‘Chain of Thorns’ snippet

Happy Friday! Today’s article is really special because a new issue of Cassandra Clare’s newsletter just hit inboxes and it’s filled with exciting information: snippets, new artwork, a Reginald video, and Hollywood meetings. 😀
Let’s have a look at the snippets first, though. During our 10th anniversary Instagram live with Cassie, she revealed when she’d share the first Chain of Thorns snippet (June), but it looks like she changed her mind… Shadowhunters, Downworlders, mundies, the first snippet from the final The Last Hours novel – Spoilers for Chain of Iron:

Paladin.

The word echoed in Cordelia’s ears. Though she had clambered blindly into a fiacre with Matthew, though they were rattling quickly through some part of Paris, she still felt as if she were standing in front of the cabaret, hearing the guard refuse her entrance. I know what I know. You cannot come inside.

Because you are corrupted within, said a small voice inside her. Because you belong to Lilith, Mother of Demons. Because of your own foolishness, you are cursed. No one should be around you.

“Daisy?” Matthew’s worried voice seemed to come from far away. “Daisy, please. Talk to me.”

I know it’s only a few sentences but these already break my heart. I need Daisy to be okay. Please get rid of Lilith’s influence asap. 😦

The other snippet is from Sword Catcher, Cassie’s first adult high fantasy novel, and I’m really intrigued.

“But you should,” said the Ragpicker King. “There is a reason, you know, that the Sword Catcher ceases to be the Sword Catcher when the prince takes the throne. Because the King is a god, and no one can pretend to be a god. When Prince Conor becomes King, you will cease to be what you are. You will become an inconvenience to the throne. You will be sent some distance away, perhaps to Valderan, to spend the rest of your life inconspicuously. Is that your dream? To be inconspicuous?” His green gaze swept over Kel like water. “Everyone has a dream.”

Kel looked away before the Ragpicker King could see any change in his expression. The man already seemed to know far too much about him, and about the Palace. He did not need to guess more.

“I could help you get what you want,” said the Ragpicker King. “I am a great enthusiast of dreams.”

We don’t have release dates for these two books yet, but Cassie teased that she’d share the release date of Chain of Thorns soon. It’s definitely going to be published in 2022 and Sword Catcher either at the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023. As soon as we know anything, we’ll announce it here on TMI Source and on our social media pages.
Another thing we can look forward to is Cassie’s secret project and she’s shared the following artwork by Cassandra Jean as a ‘cryptic hint’:

Damn, the Cassies are killing me with the meanings of the flowers! And Ty’s necklaces make me sad 😦

Ok, we’ve had snippets, art and Reginald, now let’s address the Hollywood meetings. Cassie is currently in sunny LA where she is meeting friends like Leigh Bardugo, but she’s also working:

I’ve been having a lot of fun and productive Hollywood meetings too, and hope to have exciting news for you all down the road… meanwhile I’m enjoying working on Chain of Thorns and Sword Catcher
