Meet more characters from ‘Sword Catcher’

+ A 'The Wicked Powers' Comic!

Good morning, afternoon or evening! It’s a new month, so I’m sure you know what this means: another newsletter recap! Cassandra Clare sent another issue of her monthly newsletter – subscribe here – in which she shared more Sword Catcher information, but also briefly addressed The Wicked Powers. Get this, we got a Ty and Kit comic! 😀
Let’s focus on Sword Catcher first, though.
Entertainment Weekly published an excerpt from Cassie’s first adult novel and she was also interviewed by The Bookseller.

If you want to support your Indie bookseller when pre-ordering Sword Catcher, you might be lucky and get an exclusive page overlay of Lin Caster! Click the image to see the participating shops.

Due to Cassie’s new book, she’s hitting the road in October to meet her readers. She’ll be touring in the US and the UK, but before that Cassie is actually going to be in Brazil! Get tickets for Cassie’s Bienal events and visit our friends Idris Brasil for more information.

We’ve already seen a lot of special editions of Sword Catcher and now a new one has joined the others:
Cassie is once again teaming up with Illumicrate for a gorgeous exclusive edition:

Here’s what Cassie said:

I love this beautiful edition of Sword Catcher from Illumicrate!  It has an exclusive redesigned cover by @andrewdavis_designs, endpaper art by @erion.makuo and sprayed edges by @chattynora.

As a super fun bonus, hidden underneath the dust jacket, you’ll find a foiled cover design by @rosdottir of Tales of the Sorcerer-Kings by Laocantus Aurus Iovit, a fictional book woven throughout Sword Catcher that delves into the history of magic in this world!

I hope you love this gorgeous special edition just as much as I do! Pre-sale details will be sent out on the 30th August and general sale begins on the 7th September. Check out the link https://www.instagram.com/p/CvsITAtoVsa/ for more.

I love this very different look so I can’t wait to buy this copy!

This month we are introduced to two characters from Sword Catcher. The art is of course by Sasha Coleman.

Meet Jerrod Belmerci and Vienne d’Este!

Jerrod is a criminal — a master thief, the head of the Crawlers, an organization of thieves who have trained themselves to crawl up walls, over roofs, and into tunnels into order to steal valuables and sell them for a profit. Jerrod is a bit of a mystery even to his friends — the left side of his face is covered in a steel mask, though no one knows why. He and Kel have an unpleasant run in early on in the book when Jerrod mistakes Kel for Prince Conor, and Kel is none to happy to find out he has to work with Jerrod later on the orders of the Ragpicker King.
[…]
Vienne is our first character who isn’t from Castellane. She is a member of the Black Guard, the elite warriors who protect the royal family of Sarthe — the kingdom over the border from Castellane. She accompanies a princess of Sarthe to Castellane, only to find herself drawn into intrigues and conflicts involving Kel and the royal family of Aurelian.

Of course we also do have snippets about these two characters, Jerrod first:

Kel pressed his hand against his chest. His shirt was as wet as if he’d spilled water on it. The pain was a screw, turning and tightening, pinning him to the earth. He could hear his own breath, rough and hoarse. Brick walls rose above him, between them a thin strip of stars.
And then, blotting out the stars for a moment, the shimmer of a metal mask. Jerrod was crouched over him.
“You might not be the Prince,” Jerrod said, his voice strained. “But you’re wearing his cloak. I wasn’t wrong about that. Who are you?”
Kel shook his head, or tried to. I can’t tell you, he thought, but it is my job to die for Conor, and now I suppose it is happening. I just didn’t think it would be in quite such a stupid way.
“My apologies,” Jerrod said. And he sounded as if he meant it. “It wasn’t supposed to happen like this.”

This doesn’t sound good for Kel.
And the snippet about Vienne:

Another small cheer rose from the crowd: They were pleased at the beauty of their Prince. It was a point of pride. They cheered again when Lilibet emerged to stand beside her son, her posture regal, her long black hair braided with emeralds.
Conor stood with his shoulders back as the doors of the Sarthen carriage opened. Kel felt a strange mixture of pain and pride: Conor was facing this, the consequences of his actions, with his head held high. At the same time, Kel hated that it was happening, even as a young woman stepped from the Sarthen carriage.
She was tall, with long chestnut hair, held back by a hoop of bronze. She wore a close-fitting black tunic and trousers, and a gold sword—safe in its scabbard—hung at her hip.
Antonetta made a puzzled noise. “An unusually dressed Princess,” she said.
“She is not the Princess, Ana,” said Falconet, lazily. “I recognize her from the court at Aquila. That is Vienne d’Este, one of the Black Guard.”
The Black Guard. Kel knew of them. They were nearly mythical: an elite unit of the Sarthen army who gathered intelligence for their King. They were also trained assassins, some of the best in the world, though that fact was never publicly admitted.

She sounds very impressive! I cannot wait to get to know her in Sword Catcher.

And now, the moment many have probably waited for (or simply scrolled down): a short The Wicked Powers comic featuring Ty and Kit! 😀

I know it doesn’t seem like it, but I promise news about Wicked Powers is getting closer! And news about the crowdfunded SOBH project and what else it includes. A lot of people have been very specifically asking for a Kit and Ty kissing scene (possibly crowdfunded) to appear before Wicked Powers is published.

I have brought in Kit and Ty to address this rumor/request:

Art by Cassandra Jean. Don’t murder us! It’s the truth!

Well… the two Cassies certainly know how to tease the Kitty shippers! I’m glad we’re getting closer to getting news, though.

That’s everything for today. Have a great day/night. 🙂

Sword Catcher is published on 10/10! Make sure to pre-order your copy today!
