Yahoo! UK recaps ‘MORTAL INSTRUMENTS’ panel at London Film and Comic Con

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones made an appearance at London Film and Comic Con on Saturday, July 6, where Cassandra Clare and Jamie Campbell Bower took part in a Mortal Instruments panel.

Yahoo! UK was in attendance and has a great write-up from the event that “proved to be one of the most popular panels from the London Film and Comic Con this weekend.”

Both Clare and Bower seemed humbled by the experience, with Clare honoured to have been involved in the adaptations process – something which is not commonplace for most authors – and Bower thanking the power of the fans for getting the film made in the first place.

Bower explained that he tries not to focus on the global recognition a film could bring him, focusing instead on stories that mean a lot to him. When asked about his combat training over the years, Bower laughed that for a while he knew how to kill someone with his bare hands but has a brain like a sieve and has since forgotten all his training.

Bower clearly adores his career, saying that he constantly finds it ‘shocking that somebody wants to pay me to dress up’. He also confessed to having stolen a few things from the set including a rather important ring. Clare laughed that she had also tried to take the mortal cup but hadn’t banked on it being quite so heavy. The cast, they explained, all have their own shadowhunter necklaces – but these were given to them, not taken from the set!

Following the Q & A, an exclusive never-before-seen clip was shown to the audience. Here’s Yahoo! UK’s account:

Though it was great fun watching Clare and Bower banter about the joy of being involved in such a – as Clare called it – ‘passion project’, one of the most exciting moments of the panel was getting to see an exclusive new clip from the film. The clip was so intriguing that even Bower moved his seat away from the stage to get a better view. In the clip, Lily Collins (Clary) and Bower enter a building to speak to CCH Pounder’s Madame Dorothea. There was also a look at ‘Misfits’ star Robert Sheehan as Simon putting a shovel to good use. In only a few minutes, the clip had humour (as Jace is told to remove his weaponry before entering and proceeds to remove an obscene amount of knives), suspense and lots of action.
