Cassandra Clare talks deleted Idris flashback scenes (Exclusive)
Last month, Cassandra Clare talked about certain scenes that were filmed during The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones that didn’t make the cut into the movie. Those scenes included flashbacks in Idris, which we saw a little bit of in the movie.
With the upcoming Blu-ray/DVD release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, we spoke with Clare about all things City of Bones, including those scenes that we’re all hoping make it onto the special features.
Clare said that they actually filmed a full day’s worth of Idris scenes that she hopes fans will get to see.
“The stuff with Valentine and Jace when he was a little boy. There’s a whole scene where you see little Jace (who was totally cute) with the bird his father had given him, and then Valentine comes over to him and gives him the speech about, ‘You didn’t tame this bird. You broke it.'”
Clare revealed that some of those flashback scenes featured a younger character fans that have read through City of Glass will be familiar with.
“They also filmed a whole bunch of stuff with Valentine and, actually, Sebastian,” Clare said. “Sebastian, who was a different little actor. Kinda [Valentine] teaching him how to fight and Jocelyn looking on and looking worried.”
She hasn’t seen the DVD extras yet (“I’m going to make all my friends come over and watch them with me”), so there’s no way to know for are if those scenes made it onto the extras. But Clare is hopeful.
“I really hope some of that stuff makes it into the DVD extras because that’s just really awesome,” she said.
Also among the special features are an interactive lineage tracker, the “Almost Is Never Enough” music video by Ariana Grande featuring Nathan Sykes, and five behind-the-scenes featurettes.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, Dec. 3 in the U.S.
Deleting those scenes….yet another infuriatingly stupid decision regarding to this movie. >_<
i couldnt wait to see idris and they delete the scenes thats fu*king stupid :@
They filmed scenes with SEBASTIAN?! O.O
Holy sh*t, where can we see it?! Please, put it in the extras! I’m dying to see some of younger characters! And I’m curious how Sebastian’s/Jonathan’s hair looks like in the movie… 😛
this movie made me soooo mad!!! i wish they’d reboot it
SebASTIAN?? They did scenes with him?! I absolutely can’t wait to see that.
I would love to See extra scenes with Sebastian. But I can’ t understand one thing: how could Jocelyn watch a training between Valentine and Sebastian, when they were separated before his first birthday 😒
that could only mean that in the movie they change the age and Sebastian would be like 5 or 6 and starting his training and Jocelyn watched as they do it so if we get a Third movie Seb would not be 18 would be like almost 21 right¿?
You are right Ronald, in the movie they made the characters ages older so yeah it would make sense that Sebastian was older in that scene
I think it’s mentioned somewhere that Sabestian grew up at a really quick paces so like if he was supposed to be three he looked like a six year-old.
That’s so cool! i wish they would have done better on this movie…. I hope with CoA they make it more like the book and I hope that if they do CoG, they split it into 2 parts, because it’s such a long book. I can’t wait for the DVD! Fingers crossed on a potential X-mas gift! 😉
Holy crap! Scenes with Idris, and Sebstain! I hope that makes it on the DVD!
I understand why they delete them, and I hope to see those scenes in the dvd n.n
Sebastian is my favorite character over Valentine by far but his character is irrelevant to the plot at this point and would have jumbled the meaning of the movie even more. Basic character and story development totally lacked I found as I watched with two friends who had not read the books. How about throwing in why they were at the institute and how Jace was orphaned instead of mentioning the dead father in passing. The Silent Bothers were not explained so that appeared random to the plot even though their city is The City of Bones. They did not give enough back story while adding in things like Bach that made no sense. They also did nothing with the lead Vampire Raphael or make any mention of Luke being the head Werewolf. I really hope they do get Sebastian right because Valentine was very lacking as the ultimate manipulator and he left the movie without the Cup so now he has to pursue the Cup and the Sword for the next film. The only things I did like that they can keep are the special effects and humor. I loved the books and they have so much potential so PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, at least get the basics that can keep the plots on a level playing field for everyone. Evan Peters as Tate Langdon (American Horror Story) completely rocks on the YouTube depiction of Sebastian by the way!
