Cassandra Clare talks ‘Clockwork Prince’ sexiness plus alternating ‘TMI’ and ‘TID’ movies
With the release of Clockwork Prince only one week young, the excitement surrounding the release is still as hot as ever, as evidenced with the release of the Dirty Sexy Balcony Scene today.
Cassandra Clare, who spoke with The FAB Life, discovered that Victorian London was actually a lot different than she originally thought before she researched the time period for more than six months.
“The Victorians were much less hung up and repressed than we think of them as,” Clare told TheFABlife of what she discovered while researching the book. “I had always thought of them with these apocryphal stories that they couldn’t say ‘arm’ or ‘leg’ in public and that they covered their piano legs because they were supposed to be naughty. This was all total crap apparently. None of that stuff ever happened. The books of the time period that were really popular are shocking. They were full of sex and violence and betrayal and adultery and sin.”
Clare received some feedback from her editor questioning if the hot and heavy kissing scenes, between Tessa & Will and Tessa & Jem, were “properly Victorian.” And, Clare found out in researching, they were!
“When I was writing the kissing scene, my editor got back to me with notes and she was like, ‘These are great, but is this properly Victoria?’ ” Clare said. “And I was like, ‘Properly Victorian! Here are some examples.’ And boy were there a lot of babies born five months after the wedding. The research on sex and relationships in the Victorian era was very eye opening!”
On the Infernal Devices movie front, Clare said that they have pinned down a screenwriter.
Clare also revealed that Screen Gems would like to release the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices films in the order the books were released.
“We’ve only gotten as far as the screenwriter,” she said. “They’re very enthusiastic about it. They were like, ‘What would you feel if we … released them the same way you released the books, alternating?’ I was like, ‘If you think that will work … you know about movies and I don’t!’ That would be really interesting. I don’t know if they would do one in the spring and one in the fall or what.”
Who else is on-board with alternating Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices movies?
