Rumor Has It: ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ Filming to Begin in August?

A few days ago, Marlene King, who rewrote the screenplay for the adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, set Twitter ablaze with fan fervor as she shared she had some “exciting news” for Mortal Instruments fans.

The rewrite of the City of Bones script was turned in December of 2011 and were awaiting approval from Sony and Screen Gems. Could King have confirmation that the script has full approval by the studio?

On Monday morning, King revealed that rumor has it filming on City of Bones will begin in August.

Like King said, it is just a rumor. But she also said before that “news is so close.”

Back in December, Cassandra Clare revealed that Screen Gems was hoping to start filming in spring of this year, which could be anywhere from March through May, but that wasn’t official.

Last Monday, we learned that Lily Collins (Clary) had to drop out of The Evil Dead remake due to “scheduling conflicts,” that we couldn’t help but think have something to do with Mortal Instruments filming.

Filming for The Evil Dead is due to begin in March, so one has to wonder if Screen Gems is still shooting for that spring start date. Why else wold Collins have to drop out of a movie that would be done filming three months prior to the start of City of Bones filming?

Nothing is official until Sony or Screen Gems confirms it.
