‘City of Bones’ gets production designer, casting director

After a period of next to no movie news, things are really starting to heat up for the film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

Aside from a confirmed release date of August 23, 2013, a filming start set for August 15 of this year and confirmation that Sony/Screen Gems will be distrubuting, Cassandra Clare revealed more details about City of Bones with Hollywood Crush.

The Emmy-nominated Francois Seguin (The Borgias), who also worked on the remake of The Karate Kid with director Harald Zwart, will serve as production designer and Zwart is busy rounding out the rest of his crew.

He’s also busy scouting for filming locations in Toronto and New York City.

“This week Harald and the production team are scouting locations, so if you see a guy who looks a little like a Viking, but has energy like a leprechaun, running around Toronto or NYC with a bunch of people in his wake, it may well be Harald!” she said.

Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower, who is currently negotiating his contract, are the only actors attached to star at this point, and casting is certainly heating up for the remaining crop of characters.

Clare revealed that, while she can’t say much, the studio has hired a casting director (Stephanie) and she is “working” on casting.

“I know what everyone wants to know about is casting, but that’s staying close to the vest for the moment, though we do have a new casting director and she’s on it. I’m excited to see what happens.”

UPDATED: Clare had this to say on her Tumblr:

Hello, Shadowhunters. 🙂

And a little bit more for you on the movie. It’s quite a day for us! But it’s hard to underestimate how important a release date is for a film. The only bigger deal is actually starting shooting at which point … you really have a movie.

As I told MTV, Harald (our director, so we might as well all start thinking of him on a first name basis) is putting his production team together. They just hired Francois Seguin  as production designer. Francois is incredibly talented and awesome, just was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the Borgias, and it is his job to make everything look amazing and beautiful. Francois, Harald and the production team are scouting for locations this week … so if you’re in Toronto and/or New York … you might see them searching for the Institute. 🙂

Clare revealed some interesting information on the casting of the Shadowhunters:

We have a casting director, too, Stephanie, and there’s a definite concentration on European and British actors for the Shadowhunters, which I like as it underlines the feeling that they are not quite like the culture that surrounds them. That doesn’t apply to Simon of course, so favorites floating around like a certain guy whose name starts with A and another guy whose name starts with L are not off the table. ;)*

*I’m really not supposed to talk about casting. They’ll make me live in a brick igloo. Since everyone is asking me about Playlist saying Jamie isn’t attached, they have been saying that for a while. I do not know why. It isn’t what I have heard, and that is honestly all I know.

  1. I’m certain whomever they chose for each part will be perfect. I trust the professionals enough to know that they know what they are doing. 😉 I have high hopes for these movies, I am literally IN LOVE with these books xD

  2. In regards to the Simon casting, I know who L is supposed to be. But I can’t think of who A is. Does anyone know?

  3. Soooo…. If Jamie backs out, can we ask Alex Pettyfer again? 😉

  4. This is like PLL all over again! Nobody knows who ‘A’ is!!! But SUPERLY, EXTREMELY excited!! We have been waiting for what feels like forever for some news and no were getting and I’m excited!!!

yes he has! and I’m be kinda ticked if he doesn’t end up being Jace, but if they have ot recast, as along they make a great pic, I’ll be happy in the end (though while stilling thinking how Jamie would’ve been a great Jace)

  6. Jamie has to stay as Jace, I dislike Alex Pettyfer his a terrible actor, now I’m not saying Jamie is any better at acting,Jamie is OK & at least he is not a douche,Jamie
    is weird & a little odd , but not a douche! 😉

  7. Ok I did a little digging, and it looks like the mysterious “A” is Asher Book. Here is his imdb page.

I’m so excited! so Jamie is still Jace for now, and hopefully he’ll keep it but if not, maybe alex, ed speelers or austin buttler could be a great Jace? also to people don’t panic, if you’re worrying about Jamie, he’s sitll got the role but is is negoations? Remember a few years with Breaking Dawn? People weren’t sure if Ashley and Kellan would be still be cast. (They still had the role and they were in negaitons. in the end, it worked out)
