RUMOR: Kevin Zegers cast as Alec Lightwood in ‘City of Bones’
Just Jared is reporting that Kevin Zeger has been cast as Alec Lightwood in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
There is no official confirmation at this point so it is a RUMOR until otherwise stated.
Kevin Zegers has booked a leading role in the highly anticipated film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, JustJared.com can exclusively reveal!
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is based on the first book in the best-selling series by Cassandra Clare. The story follows Clary Fray (Lily Collins), a seemingly ordinary teenage girl, who finds out the truths about her past and bloodline after her mom is attacked and taken from their home in New York City by a demon. Her entire life is changed on her quest to get her mom back.
Kevin, 27, will play Alec Lightwood, the gay brother of Isabelle (Jemima West). He is in love with Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower) and dislikes Clary because Jace is in love with her and not him. The film is scheduled to be released on August 23, 2013.
Other entertainment websites (Collider, Shock Til You Drop, Cinema Blend) have also reported this, but have all cited Just Jared as the source, so there is no official announcement from the studio.
UPDATE: Cassandra Clare took to her Tumblr to address the casting rumor.
And yes, I know there are casting rumors swirling and you want to know whether they’re true or not. Unfortunately I can’t confirm or deny (and I was hoping to get out of this without sounding like Nixon) at the moment. Hopefully this Dark Suspense will not last too long….

Anyway, Kevin Zegers is super gorgeous! Love him. He would not disappoint me if he is for sure playing Alec. Too bad he’d be playing a gay character in the movie *sigh*…
This old man, god I hope not. But looking at pictures of him younger, he did look like Alec, but he’s too old now.
You know, I have to agree. He looks much older than a teenager. Really, that’s the only unfortunate part, IF he will be playing the role. Hopefully though his great acting and handsome looks would make up for it. =)

I believe it. JustJared are pretty reliable for this kind of thing as publicists provide information to them sometimes. Probably Zegers people released the info to them. Why would JJ even waste time making this up?
I think they will be aging some of the characters up. Only Lily,Jamie and possibly Robert can pass as teens . Lily can easily pass for a teenager as she looks extremely young but I do think it’s funny that she is currently the youngest person of the ‘teen’ cast at 23!
Brittany: I think the other actor must have fallen through probably becasue of those aforementioned scheduling issues.
That’s great news. I have seen Kevin in a few different roles and he is sexy and smart and sweet. He can show strength, selflessness and passion very well. He is very good looking… This picture does not do him justice. He will make a very fine Alex, if this casting rumor is true.

Well Hello… His name is ALEXander Lightwood. Check facts befote you correct someone. Alec is the nickname so theres nothing wrong calling him Alex.

Ya… There is something wrong calling him Alex because Alex and Alec are different even though his name is Alexander. He only likes it when one person (which I won’t say who) calls him Alexander and everyone else calls him Alec… Not once was he ever called Alex, because it Alexander going by Alec not Alex. I feel likei repeeted myself a lot, but it needed to be said.
Cassie said he was a British actor, Kevin is Canadian and proud of it, I don’t think Cassie would be confused about that…had Cassie not said previously that he was a british actor, I wouldn’t be terribly disappointed with Kevin, he looks like Alec, but he doesn’t look 18. Anyone else remember him from the Air bud movies growing up?

Well, I wouldn’t be too terribly disappointed if this was true. He looks very much the part, if a bit too old.
He looks way to old. To me, it screws up the chemistry and depicts a totally different relationship if the actor they cast for Alec appears physically older than the actor they cast for Magnus. Plus, Jace and Alec should look like they are close in age (only a year or two apart). This dude looks 5-10 years older than Jaimie.
Even if Kevin looks old, Mags looks wrong too.
First of all, in the 1200s no Caucasians were in contact with Indonesians. So Magnus cannot exist.

They never realize light travels faster than sound.

And they (almost) always pick the stupidest books. AKA TWILIGHT.
So stupid the all the actors seem like superficial / lust-ridden / uncannily single-personality / bastards.
And what’s w/ Bella first being an ANTI-MARIE SUE (Omg she is so ugly, she’s clueless, but guys think she’s cute, and she’s a clumsy hag, and now some hot HUNK just HAPPENS to fall in love with her, and just HAPPENS to have a taste for her blood.)
And then being a MARIE-SUE? (Omg she’s hot now, and is incredibly smart, and is faster and stronger than Edward, and has amazing self-control) LIKE SHE’S SO FUCKING SINGULAR NO ONE’S EVER HAD STRONGER WILL.
The actors are WAY better than the characters, and I hope they did not suffer fatalistic brain damage from even attempting to act such retarded characters.
At first I was thinking…WHAT?!?! No! He’s too old to play 18 year old Alec! I’m 30 and I know Kevin’s been around for a while. But…then I went through all his google images and… good lord I didn’t even realize how gorgeous he could look! I’ve only really seen him in a few movies and always remember thinking he was cute, but some of those pics…WOW! I do agree with other comments that the younger pics do scream Alec with the dark hair and blue eyes, but I’m not really sure which pics were the more recent ones.
With all that being said, sadly I think this is a rumor and I doubt that he has actually been cast in the role.
Yes he is amazingly hot in the pics. I mean, his other pics may not be hot, but… THE ONE’S FOR TMI SURE ARE. And though I DO love Gao, moviemaker’s never know how to get things right. ❤

Sam Claflin is the person I think Cassandra was linking with Douglas Booth. He’s British, and models. He’s rumored to be cast as Finnick Odair in the Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire. I think they’ve had to research other possible candidates- hence this new guy, Kevin Zegers. Let’s hope she lets us know who it was they were linking with Booth, regardless if he gets cast or not.

Cassie saying that she can neither confirm nor deny at the moment leads me to believe that the rumors may be true but that she still can’t confirm to us because it’s not official yet. So if that’s the case, I guess I can get used to it and just trust that with the right makeup and costuming he will look an appropriate age. As long as Cassie has faith, I have faith too.
Yay I agree! Even though the author doesn’t really have influence on the cast. (Clary was never meant to look like that. I always imagined Izzy, and everyone else differently. I also was always under the impression Magnus was a skinnier, taller, goldener (skinned), and more Asian-eyed version of Adam Lambert. 😀
well its a rumor. cc said alecs actor was british. hes not the right age if they do try to make the other books by the time their done he’ll be 30. i wuld expect the REAL actor wuld either not be heard of yet or exprienced in playing a teen. everyone is getting info from this ‘just jared’ guy well he might just be hoping this. and if it is true cassie probaly wuld not have said.
I just found someone I think would make a good Alec: Devon Werkheiser from Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. I’m not sure how well he acts nowadays though. But he’s 21, his eyes are blue (i think) and he’s 5’9.
But he’s not British. Forgot about that rule…:(
