Did Sony Pictures just confirm that Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been cast as Valentine in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones?
It looks like it according to a tweet from @sprER, a Sony Pictures Twitter handle.
The link redirects you to article by IndieWire that was published Wednesday and references The Hollywood Reporter’s exclusive casting news regarding Rhys Meyers as Valentine.
Still waiting on confirmation from Cassandra Clare and for Rhys Meyers’ photo to appear on TheMortalInstrumentsMovie.com, but it looks like this bit of casting news has been confirmed if the studio is reporting it.

I love JRM as Valentine, I’m sure he will play the evil character magnificently. IF you have seen him in the movie Vanity Fair, he plays quite the scheming role in that. I’m excited to see what he does with the character.

I agree completely. He seems too young, but I guess that he would be okay. In the City of Glass, it said that he looked like he was only in his 20’s.

He is not to young. He is the right age. I dont know why everyone is saying that he is too young. He is 35. If you think about it. Clary is 15/16 which would mean that he was 20/21 when Clary was born. Which means that is the age he was in the books. Were people like imagining him in his 40s?
I agree with you Ryan. jionahthan Rhys-Meyers looks like someone in his mid-30s which is exactly what Valentine is supposed to be! It’s like people don’t know what someone in their mid-30s actually looks like.

i think its’s because Harry Potter is in a class of it’s own. It’s so much more than just a YA book. I’m glad it isn’t on the list because it is so much better than any of them.
Harry Potter is not only a franchise, a YA novel or a “big thing”…it is a classic. And that makes the difference.
But it still is all of those things, even if it is so much more epic.

Excellent! I didn’t even consider him before but I think he’ll pull it off magnificently – not sure how he’ll look with ash white hair but I do think he’ll be amazing! Great choice!
