I can’t believe how many haters there are… people keep complaining about every little detail. Like really, keep complaining. Because then we know how amazing the movie REALLY is. THANKS HATERS!!!!! 😀

Here in America it’s only number 3 because of Lee Daniels and still Planes. I don’t even want to know what will happen now that Getaway came out haha

    • I seriously don’t understand why people don’t even seem to know about it. It is an amazing movie. I have never read the books but i definetely want them to adapt all the book series. I absolutely loved the movie.

  5. I had no idea that it did so well here in Sweden. I was literally so mad because I had not seen any trailers for the movie on tv and any other promotion. But I’ve seen it twice and I’m going to see it again this weekend!

    • I’m so happy it’s number one in my country(Sweden)! 🙂 Let’s go shadowhunters across the world!!!
@Elin You didn’t see the trailer on tv? I was lucky to see it on tv and I’m also from Sweden. =)

      • No promotion? I saw it everywhere. On the bus stations, the theatre, posters everywhere and the trailer on the tv at least 10 times 😉 And yep, I am from Sweden. So glad it went so good here 🙂

  6. Now that you mention it, here in Portugal hasn’t been any kind of promotion of the movie. I got know about it when i saw a programme on tv about cinema. they talk about several movies who have been recently in theaters.

  7. It is so interesting how much better the movie is doing in Europe and Asia as opposed to here. I am glad though that it is getting the audience it deserves. Lately a lot of the movies that come out
do better internationally than here. Strange indeed.

  8. I watched the movie here in Sweden on the premiere day (24/8)! 🙂

  9. Wow.. guys, I don’t even know why you are so impressed with this movie! Yeah, you can hate me now but I really think they butchered the book! They spoiled things from book 2 and 3 and it was just the first movie.. I actually never felt anything except for pity for Simon.. maybe it’s because I saw it in German but I don’t think so. The script was really bad and everything was sooo predictable. But I think they did a great job with CGI and the sets

Agreed. I wasn’t too impressed with the movies, but I love the books. I’ve read every single one of Cassandra Clare’s books. The day they come out I get them. I just think that key points were missing here – such as Valentine’s hair colour. Sebastian’s hair is blonde. Clary knows he betrayed them because she remembered that she got black hair dye on her hands. Now that Valentine’s hair is black, we don’t know how she knows. Also, I really did not care for how they gave away the entire twist of the books, however much I understand that they don’t want people to think that they support incest. It just disappointed me, because then all the TMI fans would know and others would not. There were key mistakes, including leaving out Raphael and having Simon being bitten instead of biting Raphael (which explains his transformation, because as we all know, Simon bit Isabelle and Maureen and Jace, and none of them turned.) I am also going to point out something terrible – many, many critics despised the movie. On the Rotten Tomatoes website the percentage for the audience liking the movie keeps going down. It used to be eighty three percent just a week ago. Now it’s more along the lines of seventy two percent. Let’s keep in mind that Star Trek Into Darkness can barely make a sequel as it is, and they made two hundred and twenty seven million opening weekend in America alone. City of Bones has only made back twenty six million across the globe. I’m not hating the movie, I’m just pointing out – you all may be a bit disappointed with what you receive in City of Ashes. I recognize that they already started filming. Just try not to expect amazing CGI this next time.

  10. I just saw it again for the third time today and let me tell you it gets better everytime

  11. Here in Italy it was second! 251 thousand euros! Keep watching 🙂

  12. Sorry to ask this, as you guys probably get this a lot, but how much money has TMI grossed as of today? Does anyone know? And if so, where do you go to find out?

I’m so worried about the lack of money this movie’s making, and the future of the film series. It cost 60M to make it, right? Last I heard, it’s only made 31M back. Yikes.

If only they’d marketed better! I thought the movie was FANTASTIC! I’ve seen it four times now (and at least plan to see it one more time), and haven’t gotten tired of it yet. I just really love it, and it’s truly one of the best/most faithful adaptations I’ve ever seen.

They really need to market the next movie better, and maybe spend less on the special effects next time? There’s so much about this series that I think people could easily get into; they just need to KNOW about it. It’s just so charming and stuff! (and honestly, I think it’s a lot more accessible than THG…) -continues to pray that things start to go better-

    • Hey Shanna,

Definitely check out, they update the status regularly. As for how much they make, as of today 9/1-it is: $22,654,000 (est) NOT including global sales, so it’s probably much higher than that. Don’t worry though, you also have to put into account DVD sales and all that jazz.

I really think they need to do a better job with advertising the movie in the US 😦 Makes me sad that it did so poorly here, when Cassie obviously has A LOT of fans in the US. But like most movies, it will get more popular and well known as the series continues. Hope that helps :]

      • Ack! How did I just see this post now?! Thanks a lot for the number and link, Emily. I really appreciate it! I’m going to have to take advantage of that site from now on:)

And here’s hoping we have many more years of TMI movies to come, and that it gets the love it deserves=) Now if only I could convince all of my friends to get into it…

  13. Woho! I saw it here in Sweden on the premiere day! 😀

  14. Watch the video “glass walls” with a very important message from Paul McCartney and know what you eat
Warning: Explicit violent content towards animals
