‘City of Bones’ coming to theaters on August 23, 2013

Let the countdown begin…

According to ScreenRant, Sony Pictures has set a U.S. release date of August 23, 2013, for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

We now know (via Box Office Mojo) that Sony has set The Mortal Instruments to hit theaters in the U.S. on August 23rd, 2013. That’s probably a wise move, as Clare’s source material is not the best-selling monstrosity that other young adult series-turned-blockbusters are (see: Twilight, The Hunger Games). Not to mention, neither of the film’s attached stars – Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror) and Jamie Campbell Bower (Camelot) – are big enough names so as to make the film more bankable – and thus able to hold its own against some of the “big guns” that will grace the silver screen during the more competitive portion of next summer.

This is great news as a release date is usually the final step toward getting an official green light.

Principal photography will begin on August 15 in Toronto.

Constantin Film and Unique Features will produce with Sony Pictures set as the distributor. Harald Zwart is set to direct and Lily Collins (Clary) and Jamie Campbell Bower (Jace) are attached to star.

Only 506 days to go!

    I AM DYING OF HAPPINESS

  2. I thought that the previous director was good at making the special effects of a movie look pretty even if the budget isn’t some $200 mill blockbuster, movies like John Carter, Avengers, etc.

GOD YOU HAVE NO IDEA IF I DON’T GO TO THE PREMIERE I MIGHT ACTUALLY DIE OF SADNESS

  4. WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO! I AM DYING HERE! TMI is gonna rock and kick butt! :DDD Can’t wait for it! 😀 ❤

  5. I can’t wait!!! Woohoo we got a date!!! ❤ 😀

This is awesome! this is a nice pick me up to some stressful times right now! I’m so excited! and I might go to the midnight showing!

  7. The mortal instruments isn’t a best selling?

    • While I was excited to see the TMI release date, this was basically the only question that I though as well. Who ever wrote “That’s probably a wise move, as Clare’s source material is not the best-selling monstrosity that other young adult series-turned-blockbusters are (see: Twilight, The Hunger Games). Not to mention, neither of the film’s attached stars – Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror) and Jamie Campbell Bower (Camelot) – are big enough names so as to make the film more bankable – and thus able to hold its own against some of the “big guns” that will grace the silver screen during the more competitive portion of next summer.”

Obviously have never read the series, or have only read the first book. They also must have never seen Lily act, but Jamie on the other hand.. I have to agree with them on that note. Other than that, they have no right to diss TMI. >:\

      • I completely agree!!! This series, in my opinion, Is better than twilight for one. And if u think about it when ya books get turned into movies they actually become more popular as more people hear about them and want to read the books before they come out as a movie..

This exact thing happened for both twilight and the hunger games…. many more ppl wanted to read the books before/ after they saw the movie… (because I for one, and many others, started reading twilight because it was being turned into a movie)

And no one has the right to say that TMI isn’t a “best selling monstrosity”! Because it most defecting is…. And the closer the movie release date comes the more people will read the books!

  8. YAY I WANNA GO TO THE PREMIERE ❤

I’m not so sure if I want the Mortal Instrument series to be turned into movies. Yes, I am excited and the little fangirl inside of me is going crazy, but I am still doubtful. I’m afraid that people will lable it as, “The next Twilight,” and then everything is going to be blown up. I want nothing more than for people to read Cassandra Clare work and enjoy it, however, I don’t to see it butchered or destroyed. Also I have been trying to get my friends to read this series forever, and every time I mention it someone says, “Oh! That one where the brother and sister love each other and there’s vampires and werewolves.” Ugh… that annoys me to no end.
It will be interesting to see the rest of the casting. I can picture Lilly Collins as Clary, but I think that Jamie looks to old to play Jace. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see!

If you look at the casting for Twilight, where were the BIG names in that movie? They all had acting experience, but we aren’t talking Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt etc and look how popular that turned out to be. People wanted to see the movie because of their love for the books not because of who was in it! It will be huge and I can’t wait. Jamie is going to be perfect as Jace, he looks fresh faced and young enough for me.Cassie loved him in his audition, that should be enough for everyone. Give him a chance please.

    • well said , dont like the way they said how it was being realease . more excitement and less negative please… i soooooo cant wait

  11. I am absolutely ecstatic over this!
It’s a dream come true for all of us fans who have stood by this project from the get go and I couldn’t be happier and prouder for Cassie! The Mortal Instruments is by far the best book series I’ve ever read and comparing it with Twilight is almost silly. Twilight became a big franchise, but it had a lot more to do with R-Patz obsessed teenage girls, than the actual ridiculously made movies and I believe that in the case of TMI people will actually love the movies for the right reasons: amazing storyline, beautifully created story-world and wonderfully written, colourful and strongly-relatable characters.
Will I go to the premiere? Hell yes! 🙂

I can’t wait! I wish more people would read these books; they’re so amazing! Maybe just like every other book people will see the movie trailer and read the books. It doesn’t matter, this movie just made me sooo happy right now! 🙂

    • Posted on incredible, that was a very good read. In cocolusinn, someone who actually thinks and understands what they are blogging about. Quite difficult to find of late, especially on the web . I bookmarked your web blog and will make sure to keep coming back here if this is how you always write. thank you, keep it up! .

  13. My friends and I were excited. Until we saw how ugly the two leading roles are.

  14. I’m so happy! But the actors better look like the characters in the book….

  15. ill be there love the books to bits…. never read the twilight series books till i saw the movie, who knows might be the same with cassandra clare’s books too

Omg I screamed like a maniac when I found out! I’m so excited! I like twilight but I love love love the mortal instruments! Can’t wait! And yes I am screaming in my head as I write this 🙂

  17. I WILL BE at the midnight premiere, with all of my friends, 100% decked out in shadowhunter clothes……. It’s going to be AMAZING!!!!!! =D

  18. I LOVE this book series and will DEFINITELY go to the premier with my friends ‘cuz its on my b-day (perfect timing) and its AMAZING!!!! (I thought it was a big seller…. )

  19. I can TOTALLY tell that THIS movie people will NEVER forget, and that this will be a BIG HIT!!!!!!! ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ 😀 ;D If i could, I'd go in the book.

  20. I just read the series and I loved and I can’t wait for it to come out on the big screen!!!! AAHHHHHH I’m so EXCITED!!! Just one thing since your making the first book please make all the movies then and not just one!!!! Love them don’t let the book ruin the movie!!!

  21. I wanna go to the premiere!! How do I get tickets???

  22. i cant wait for august 23. i am going to see city of bones when it comes out. because if i don’t i might die from sadness. also i will never be happy again, because the city of bones series is my life. I LOVE CITY OF BONES. cant wait for the movie. i spieled so much when i saw the first ever preview of city of bones on MTV and i will definitely be there, to watch city of bones the movie.

  23. oh and you are totally right. this will be the biggest hit EVER! also this movie is going to be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than twilight. i love city of bones and Jace lLghtwood.

  24. The Mortal Instruments is one of my favorite book series. Isabelle is a totally BAD ASS female character, Jace is sexy, and Magnus is just awesome. Though, I’m not a fan of Clary, I truly fear what Hollywood will do to her and my beloved characters. Usually, they just add a bunch of kissing and no plot development. I have faith in my dear Lilly to carry the role of Clary, (in my opinion it doesn’t require much talent:p), but Lilly is an extremely talented actress and I adore her! So, hopefully no stupid cuts of the plot or lack of Jace ;).

  25. Have some thing somewhat more distinctive? 😉 As an example,
reports or possibly posts concerning healthy food for kids activities.
How do I sign up to your posts? 🙂
