Casting Talk: Simon casting likely to happen in July

Cassandra Clare has shared some more casting information for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

It looks like Simon is likely to be cast in July because of “Reasons” and Clare has a favorite that she is “quietly” rooting for.

Here’s what Clare had to say:

I have seen a lot of people be surprised we have a confirmed Alec and Isabelle but not a Simon because Simon’s a more major character. And that does make sense: I think a lot of movie casting is sort of top-down from the highest billed parts. Watching this casting happen, it’s been a very gestalt approach with casting all the characters with the same amount of attention and at the same time. I think it’s really interesting and probably good in terms of building a workable ensemble and how they bounce off each other (Alec and Isabelle have to seem like they really could be brother and sister; Simon has to have chemistry not just with Lily/Clary but with Jamie/Jace; they have to have very different energy. Luke and Valentine likewise have to have a very different look and energy.)

Anyway I have a favorite Simon but I can’t say who it is. I’m rooting for him quietly because I think he’d be awesome. My guess is we won’t have a confirmed Simon until July because of Reasons. But July isn’t that far off!

July is only 10 days away, so it’s not too long of a wait. Having gone over a year without a casting, 10 days is nothing for this fandom. 

Filming on The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones will begin on August 15 in Toronto and is slated for an August 23, 2013, theatrical release.

Lily Collins (Clary), Jamie Campbell Bower (Jace) and Jemima West (Isabelle) are the only confirmed cast members at this time.
