Dominic Sherwood cast as Jace Wayland in ‘Shadowhunters’
Shadowhunters has found its Jace.
Dominic Sherwood has been cast as Jace Wayland in the television adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s worldwide bestselling Mortal Instruments series, TMI Source has learned.
This isn’t Sherwood’s first foray into the Young Adult world of adaptations. Sherwood played Christian Ozera in the shortlived Vampire Academy.
Sherwood has got the looks, the acting chops and the YA experience that we just know he’s going to be an amazing Jace.
Shadowhunters begins production next month in Toronto and will premiere in early 2016 on ABC Family.

Burbank, CA (April 20, 2015) – ABC Family has found their ‘Jace’ in British actor Dominic Sherwood — it was announced today by the network. Sherwood was recently seen starring in the feature film “Vampire Academy” and featured in the Taylor Swift “Style” video.
Based on the bestselling young adult fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, “Shadowhunters” follows 18 year-old Clary Fray who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is, but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters –– human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend Simon. Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold.
Narcissistic, and lethally gorgeous, Jace is a determined and expert Shadowhunter. A skilled soldier in a war against demons. After his father is killed, Jace makes it his life mission to seek revenge on the man who is responsible.
“Shadowhunters” is produced by Constantin Film and executive produced by Ed Decter and McG. McG will also direct the first episode.

Well…he looked gorgeous in Swift’s Style. They just have to do something with his eyes. Don’t get me wrong…his eyes are unique and beautiful, but they are not Jace’s golden eyes. But can’t wait to see him. 🙂
I kind of love that he has unique eyes, two different colours. Tumblr is abuzz with petitions for him not to wear contacts (besides that would be hell for any actor) those eyes shouldn’t be covered up 😉
He looks and sounds perfect, my only hope is that they make his hair blond and his eyes golden!
I looked at him and realized that the hair wasn’t the right shade, i sorta agree, but i dont know how I feel about the eyes, i agree that Jace is supposed to have golden eyes, but i think keeping the blue eyes could be a secret tribute to William through the fans. 😊

Oh I can totally get behind him!! He plays the type perfectly, given the way he played Christian Ozera in Vampire Academy. I loved him in that!! Now however we see that it’s more than likely all roles will be recast, I’m not saying that it’s absolute though. I for one can’t wait to see Dominic bring Jace to life!! Oh and before anyone says, he’s not blonde!!! Two words, HAIR DYE!!! Also I hope they use golden contacts as well. 🙂

Got to admit, when I first read this I was a little disappointed. The only thing I’ve seen him in is VA, and IMO, the VA movie was bad, really bad. But after looking at some more pictures of the guy I’m willing to give him a chance. Maybe he has a little bit of Jace in him after all.

Great casting! He was one of the best parts of the VA movie. I do hope they make him blonde, but I think they should leave his eyes alone, they are so unique and beautiful it would be a shame to cover them up!

He was the only decent actor in VA and looks gorgeous in the Style video. Hope they make him blonde also but as for the eyes, I hope they keep his as they are so unique.
Love this casting. He’s very talented and definitely just as attractive as the Jace described in the books.
Also, I’ve always thought Dominic Sherwood had beautiful eyes, so I really wouldn’t mind if they kept his natural eye colour for the show 🙂

Nicole u are exactly right Dominic’s talent shone through in that terrible movie for VA. It’s interesting because I remember many people saying that he was the clear stand out in that film. He certainly was the best thing about it for me.
This is a guy who is not only gorgeous, the way Jace is described in the books, but has the acting talent to handle the complexity of the character of Jace.

He looks blond enough to me, personally. And I hope they DON’T give him contacts, because it’s not even needed, and they could hurt his eyes or effect his acting, etc.
Honestly, let’s just leave him like this. The cosmetic changes aren’t even needed; all we really need to worry about is the acting.
Anyway, for some reason I thought they’d get someone who’d done things other than YA to play Jace? IDK why I though that… (I’m also a bit surprised that they didn’t announce Clary first).
But, yeah: he seems like a pretty cool and talented guy. Seems to have a bit of Jace charisma in him there, so I’m more than willing to give him a chance.

I loved him in Vampire Academy and in Taylor Swift’s “Style”! I think he’s perfect. Even though I love Jace, I wouldn’t mind Dominic’s dark hair and blue eyes.

I really hope they don’t make him wear contacts, because his eyes are perfect. They don’t have to be golden, the character is what’s important for Jace. And Dominic does look the part!

Hmmm, I am not too sure if I am honest. He could be a great Jace, but I am a little skeptical. I hope he does a good job as Jace, but he isn’t exactly how I pictured him. Hopefully he will make up for it with the way he portrays Jace’s character 🙂 I could get used to him as Jace though.

I agree. Jamie was perfect, particularly in attitude. I hope that posters will treat Dominic with more respect and kindness than Jamie was shown. I may prefer Jamie, but Dominic has the part now, and we all need to let him run with it and make it his own. I do hope they keep movie Magnus from the original cast, though.

Yeah Jamie will always be my Jace. I really wish he was playing Jace again. Dominic is okay but it’s not the sae. And they MUST have Godfrey Gao as Magnus again!
AS much as I loved Jamie and his acting was spot on. He didn’t match who Jace should be in appearance. He was way too skinny and I think he’s even skinnier now. But he was a great actor for sure and such a nice guy. I think this guy has the look of Jace, the body, the eyes. I think he’ll do a great job.

You know it’s all well and good that we find him blonde enough or that his eyes are unique, the above picture may not even be what he looks like right now, but the thing that made Jace Jace besides his personality, was the color of his hair and his eyes. Those were features that stood out to Clary, also things that brought out the sarcastic ness, “for the record my hair is naturally blonde”, and I can guarantee you there are fans out there who will be very disappointed if he doesn’t look the part as well as act it. So while we are happy with how he looks in that picture above, that’s just not the Jace most fans picture. The length of his hair though is fine. I always pictured it that length. His hair in that picture is actually brown with blonde highlights. I’m just saying what other people may eventually bring up, just like a lot of people didn’t like the color red they made Lily’s hair in the movie, they picture a carrot red color. So yes the acting is important, but so is getting the looks the way the fans feel is right. That’s the whole point in making the tv show, to bring it back to being closer to the source material, the books. I didn’t like that they made JRM brown haired instead of that white blonde he is in the books. Just like if the actor chosen to play Alec is blonde haired and brown eyed. A lot of people would be clamoring for his hair to be dyed black and given blue contacts. Also contacts may not be necessary, yes I said above I hope they give him golden contacts but they can easily cgi the color, like they did the cats eye pupil for Magnus. I’m just saying what I think. His hair should be blonder and I want the gold eyes that made JACE unique. Dominic in real life isn’t Jace, so as beautiful as his eyes are in real life, they need to be Jace’s unique. If that makes sense.
And I have no doubt he’ll play the part perfectly.
Oh yeah of course- why bother with contacts these days, Just a careful touch of CGI would do! We did see that tiny weird gleam of gold in CoB movie in Pandemonium, so no flashing eyes but I’m sure consistent CGI eyes isn’t hard.
I disagree completely. The important thing is that Jace and his features stood out to Clary, not what those particular features were. There would be no difference to Clary noticing the uniqueness of his eye color as opposed to his “golden eyes.”
Also, as far as Jace and his sarcasm go, that is going to be entirely up to the writers, not his hair color. If they write him that way, he will be that way. I’m sure they can come up with other witty and sarcastic comments.
this is just me but im not completly sold on him being jace. i think he would make a great alec but i cant do anything about that. i guess ill just have to see him in action as jace to understand what you guys are talking about.
This is exactly what I thought when I saw him, he would make a brilliant Alec. But who knows he could turn out to be the perfect Jace!
I agree. He probably would be a better Alec … or possibly Simon? I’m gonna give him a chance but they’ll need to do a really good job of having his character the same or as similar as possible to the book.

I was unsure about Dominic at first but then I looked at some pictures of him and I decided that maybe he does have some Jace in him after all. Anyways I really hope he’ll dye his hair blond, but I think even better would be t leave it brown with blond highlights, since it suits him better. I actually really wanted to see Jaces golden eyes but Dominic’s eyes are so unique that I think it will be a shame to cover them up with contacts! I think we all know that the TV Jace won’t be in any way same to the one in the book, so let’s stop trying to copy him exactly and change things up a bit for the better. I know I will miss seeing blond and golden eyed jace in the tv show, but at least he will be there whenever I open one of cassie clares books. Also, Dominic looks way older than the 18 they said the characters would be in the show. Will the other characters be aged up as well? I hope they find a great Clary too! I have really high hopes for the show now now. SOOOOOOO excited!
I thought they said he would be older than 18? 19/20? But I might be mistaken. And age isn’t often distinctly mentioned anyway unless it’s a birthday (like Clary turning 18).

Personally i dont think he can pull off jace’s personality and sexy appearance.
my personal opinion of him is that he is not attractive. Guess we will see. Lets hope he plays jace well and proves me wrong
He basically already pulled off Jace’s personality in Vampire Academy and to say he can’t pull off sexy (the guy who’s a] a model and b] was Taylor’s love interest in ‘Style’) is rather nonsensical. He may not be appealing to you personally, but he’s definitely model pretty, hence his career in the field. Hopefully he’ll prove you wrong so you can enjoy the show.

…I don’t know how I feel. Maybe if he grows his hair a bit and dies it a dark golden blond (so bright to almost be coppery, actually)…hmm. Of course, goldenish colored (brown-hazel or amber, probably) contacts might be a good idea, too. 😉
Contacts are rarely a good idea. It was distracting and laughable in Twilight and I don’t want that for a show that I’m hoping will be somewhat grittier and certainly more sophisticated. A book character is not defined by their eye color. Take Harry Potter for instance: in those books it was even a plot point that he had green eyes, yet Dan didn’t wear contacts because they hurt his eyes. It didn’t take anything away from his portrayal of Harry. Nor will it do that here if they opt to not go for glossy, Twilight-y gold contacts.

From twitter and tumblr it seems like Dominic is a fit, I see mostly positive things about this guy being casted as Jace. I will say he looks the part more than Jamie did, I’m glad the fandom accepted him unlike when Jamie was casted he got that negative backlash because everyone wanted Alex Pettyfer. Can’t wait to see who’s playing Simon, Clary and the Lightwoods
I seriously think people need to stop commenting on the shade of his hair and the colour of his eyes. So what?! As long as he portrays Jace correct, the little things about his looks don’t really matter. I’m shocked to see so many people pointing it out, it’s very ridiculous.
That’s what I said about the cast of the movie. I believe that, as long as an actor/actress portrays the character correctly, it doesn’t matter what they look like. I mean, they could’ve cast Michael B. Jordan as Jace, and, if he portrayed the character correctly, it wouldn’t have mattered to me that he looks nothing like how Jace is described in the books.
Disagree, the casting of the characters’ attributes should be exactly as they were written in the books. I will not we watching until Jace’s hair is long and blonde. On the other hand, the casting of Clary is spot on.

I’m kinda disappointed that Jamie’s not coming back, but I’m okay with Dominic playing Jace as long as he doesn’t use a fake American accent. One of the things I liked about the movie is how all the Shadowhunters had British accents.
Also, I’m open to the idea of Dominic’s girlfriend, Sarah Hyland, playing Clary (I’m a BIG “Modern Family” fan).
I’m pretty sure they intended the british accent and will use his normal voice.

I can’t see him as Jace, he doesn’t look anything like my mental picture of this character. JCB was much closer to it. I hope his acting can convince me otherwise, but for now I am quite disappointed with this casting decision.
