Alan Van Sprang Cast as Valentine in ‘Shadowhunters’

Alan-Van-Sprang

Another actor has joined the Shadowhunters family. And his character is no Father of the Year.

Alan Van Sprang has been cast as Valentine in ABC Family’s adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s best-selling The Mortal Instruments, the network announced on Friday.

Shadowhunters’ Valentine is described as a “Brilliant, cunning, and dangerously handsome” Shadowhunter who is someone “wielding immense power. His stoic, charming, and confident presence allows him control over his many followers. To seek out what he wants, Valentine executes anyone in his way, never thinking twice about it.”

Van Sprang was fantastic as King Henry on Reign, so we know he’s got this whole crazy thing down.

  1. I think he looks like a really great Valentine!

  2. I loved him as Henry in Reign and I’m sure he will be awsome as Valentine

  3. I loved him in “Reign”; he was terrifying and did a great job! Can’t wait to see him performing valentine. It’ll be perfect!
I also think they did a much better job with the cast than they did with the cast from the movie.
I’m quite confident the series will rock!

Omg I loved him in reign !!! I think he’s an amazing choice for valentine !!!

  7. He looks like a great choice for Valentine! But we’re still waiting to hear about Magnus…
    the suspension is killing me!

  8. They continue to blow me away with their casting choices! This is lovely.

  9. Holy crap, yesyesyesyes!!!! I adored him and his wicked ways in Reign (especially when Henry went ‘mad.’) And thank the angels, anyone else realize the description for Valentine’s character is absolutely spot on compared to the movie one (where he was less controlled and more crazy)? Him, Isabelle, Alec, and Jace are my favorite castings so far. I’m eagerly awaiting Magnus though. Bring me the pretty!

Yes! One of my biggest problems with the movie was Valentine, but from the description it sounds like they got him right this time.

  10. Make his hair and eyebrows winter pale, and casting will have nailed it with this character.

He’s perfect! Just needs to touch up a bit (white hair?) and he’ll be an absolutely perfect Valentine! I’m glad all the castings so far were great 😀 I’m really impressed so far

  12. No, I don’t like him. I personally think he won’t be able to pull Valentine off because I think he is a weak actor. What I’ve seen of him he tends to have a loud voice and “bounce” around a lot, I just don’t think he is belivable enough.

Honestly, this is so wrong, Valentine has pale skin and soft blonde almost white hair. Looks nothing alike. I’m extremely disappointed.

  14. So far the casting has been better than in the movie. Honestly, I’m impressed. But I’m not impressed with the fact that they haven’t cast Magnus yet -_-. I WANNA SEE MAGNUS!!!

  15. I’m sure he’ll do a great job with the acting but I’m still disappointed about his looks. Valentine is the one character I’d like to see exactly like the books. His looks are just too interesting. Blond-silverish hair? Screams fantasy. I’d love to see that on TV.

Great! I can totally see him as an evil valentine. Just add some white hair and a polished black suit, with some super cool/evil demon-slaying skills and we’re good!

  17. Fans of the books were very critical of the casting in the movie, they seem to be more positive with the tv cast . Give them time and some of them will find something to criticize. I liked the entire cast of TMI City of Bones.

  18. Hoping for the white blonde hair, but not sure if that’ll match his coloring. Oh well, not that big a deal. If he’s a proper bad ass that is a master manipulated than he’s our Valentine.

  19. He’s the first one I’m not sure about. I don’t know, I just Pictures Valentin to be more like one of those business men, who look and Sound very nice but when you don’t please them, they’ll get all evil and cruel. But let’s see.

    • Right! I always thought Velantine should look like smooth charismaric good-looking man. Nice, polite, but able to do anything. This is just not what I would approve.

  20. I just want to know how he looks with white hair than I’ll probably with be okay.

  21. If they get the hair right…
