Cassandra Clare shares more details about future Shadowhunters series, “The Dark Artifices”

Cassandra Clare has plans for another Shadowhunter trilogy.

Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter world has become one that fans have become entrenched in and they aren’t ready to say goodbye when”The Mortal Instruments” and “The Infernal Devices” wrap up in the next couple of years.

Neither is Clare.

Clare announced a while back that she had plans to continue on with the Shadowhunter world, with a whole new setting and new characters and a new plot in “The Dark Artifices” (working title) trilogy.

After some prying by the fans part about more details in regards to the new series, Clare obliged and revealed more in depth what we can expect from “The Dark Artifices.”

“It takes place five years after the end of TMI (ie in 2012) and deals with the Shadowhunters of the Los Angeles Institute,” said Clare. “There is a tangential connection to the characters of TMI but they are not main characters. The main characters are teens (meaning that during the events of TMI they’d be 11, 12 years old.)

Clare revealed the two lead protagonists’ names.

“The main female protagonist’s name is Emma, the main male protagonist’s name is Julian,” she said. “They are both Shadowhunters. They both have always known they are Shadowhunters.”

So what can we expect in “The Dark Artifices?”

“There is love, magic, romantic confusion, etc. and so on,” said Clare.

The usual, then.

Important to note:

“I have not sold these books,” Clare said. “I haven’t written any of them, I won’t until I’m done with what I’m writing now. So I don’t have a pub date beyond “after CoHF.””

Clare appreciates her fans’ interest and us fans appreciate that she will keep bringing us more of her entrancing Shadowhunter world.

  1. This is amazing! I can’t believe I didn’t know this already!! I’m excited about the new series; of course I’m practically drooling over the new Clockwork book coming out this month and then the next City book coming out later! Now this one?! I can’t wait!!!

  2. Give it up already! Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely ADORE the Mortal Instruments (at least the first three), but then her continuing the series, getting Jace and Clary into more romantic turmoil after they were finally happy, and Valentine’s dead! That’s it! But no, she has to make new crap. Then she makes Infernal Devices, which, let’s face it, are the EXACT same books, set in Victorian-era London (especially Jace and Will’s characters, carbon copies). And now she’s making MORE?!? Why don’t you come up with something new? I know it’s hard letting such a fantastic idea and characters go, but really, this is too much. You should have quit with City of Bones, City of Ashes, and City of Glass (aka the first cycle of The Mortal Instruments). (but seriously die-hard fans, don’t hate me and call me a hater, because the first three books are one of my favorite series ever!!! …go Jace!)

    • Roxanne,.. you do know Valentine died…. but his son disapeared, they didnt find the body and they said the same thing about Jonathan that they did Valentine, ITS HAPPENING ALL OVER AGAIN….pluss the characters are different anyway, so it wont be the same situation

  3. Cant effing wait! I’m a die-hard fan<3

  4. I hope the main girl, Emma, is like Isabelle from TMI because I think her character has a lot potential and because for once I would like to hear the witty comments for the female not the male character.

  5. I hope these new characters have different personalities than the original characters. For TID, it seems like she just reincarnated Isabelle in Jessie (only Isabelle is proud of being a Shadowhunter), Jace as Will (less so in book 2), Alec in Jem, and of course Clary in Tessa.
Magnus doesn’t need to be reincarnated because he’s so awesome.

    • Not entirely, Alec and Jem seem to have their own originality, but I completely agree w/ your other statement. Magnus Bane is just way to awesomesause to copy.

  6. omg im so exited!!! And i dont think will is like jace; will doesnt wanna be a jerk but jace just is. Magnus bane is a f*cking babe btw!

Um… Will is related to Jace. Will Herondale…. Steven Herondale…. Jace’s real father…. So… they have the same bloodline, so why wouldnt Jace be like Will?

  8. i agree that Will and Jace are quit alike, but they do have a lot of differences as well. Alec is not Jem, Alec has a completely different personality. I will agree that Tessa and Clary are way to close with the whole i don’t know what i am i don’t know who i love crap, and one reads and the other is and artist but really they still both paint pictures in their minds the same. Oh and Isabelle is not Jessie, that is crazy, Jessie does not think of anyone but herself, where Isabelle thinks of everyone. i love these books, i just wish that when she is done that she wright the codex.

  9. Will is way different than Jace! Will pretends to be a player and a jerk and Jace actually is a player and a jerk. Also Clary is SUPER annoying, Tessa is awesome. And there is no love triangle in TMI, there was never any question of who clary loved. it was lways Jace. Which is good because Simon could do so much better…

How can you say that clary is so cool and so is Tessa in fact in some ways both series characters are the same but not. Both series are just so awesome so hating on them I don’t think Cassie needs it. If you can’t say anything nice don’t say it at all and stop judging every little detail !

  12. I want more. I have read them all and am waiting for more. Please hurry. 🙂
