Everything you need to know about the collector’s edition of ‘Chain of Gold’

Pre-order links included

Chain of Gold won’t be published until next March so we have plenty of time to re-read The Infernal Devices and all the short stories from The Bane Chronicles, Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy and Ghosts of the Shadow Market to prepare ourselves for Cassandra Clare’s new trilogy.
There’s also plenty of time to pre-order the book but I suggest you get to it asap! Why you ask? Well, the answer is right below:

Let’s break this down, shall we?

General information:

  1. Chain of Gold will be available from McElderry (US publisher) and Walker Books (UK publisher). Both publishers are releasing the book as hardcovers. From Cassie: “The export edition (for Australia and NZ included) will be paperback. Then the UK paperback will follow”.
  2. The first English print run from both publishers will be a collector’s edition with special content. Only this print run/edition is going to have “interior frontispiece by Cassandra Jean depicting the main characters” and of course Will and Tessa’s wedding (and night) story called Fairytale of London (you can see the beginning of it above and read more here and here).

How to get a collector’s edition:

The answer is very simple: pre-order the English book! It does not matter if you live in the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand, you could live in Germany, France, Turkey, South Africa, India, Peru, Argentina …: As long as you pre-order the English edition of Chain of Gold, you will get a first print run (= the collector’s edition). But – yes, there is a but. Make sure to pre-order your book as soon as possible because the edition is available while supplies last.

Where do I pre-order?

First I’d decide whether you want to own the US or the UK hardcover and then you’ve got two options: you can go to your local book shop – it doesn’t matter if it’s Barnes & Noble or an indie book shop – or you pre-order the book online. Here are some links for you:

You can also visit Cassie’s website for more links.

Since there are a US and UK edition of Chain of Gold, there are two different ISBNs (what’s that?): The ISBN for the US hardcover (McElderry Books) is 9781481431873 and the ISBN for the UK hardcover from Walker Books is 9781406358094. These can help you when you pre-order your book in a book shop or online. If you want to pre-order Chain of Gold on Amazon (or any other online store) you search for one of the ISBNs and then purchase the book.

If you don’t live in the USA, Canada or the UK, it’s best if you pre-order your book from Book Depository – the links are above. Book Depository has free delivery to so many countries, check their list of countries they deliver to here.

Other questions:

I pre-ordered my book before the collector’s edition was announced, will I still get the bonus content? Yes, you will. A pre-order is a pre-order.

I pre-ordered my book online but there was no ‘Collector’s edition’ mention on the book cover. Will I still get the art and short story? Yes. Maybe the shop didn’t have the correct image file, they forgot to update the cover or they simply are too busy at the moment.

I live in Italy (or any other country that’s not the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand), will the Italian publisher also publish the bonus content? When will the book be released? Foreign language editions and their bonus content are always up to the publisher so if you want the bonus content, maybe a polite email will help. 🙂 Authors often do not know when translations of their books will be published. Ask the publisher or use Google.

Will Waterstones publish a rune edition? I don’t know but since Waterstones worked with a different publisher (Simon & Schuster UK) for these editions, I think it’s really up to Walker Books. So far we haven’t heard anything so my guess is that we’re not getting a rune edition for Chain of Gold.
Edited to add: Yes! Here is our article about the rune edition!

  1. Thanks for the info! Just wanted to mention that wordery.com is also a fantastic online bookshop with free worldwide delivery, much like Book Depository. I tend to use either one of those, plus because I usually prefer the US editions of books 🙂

  2. Thank you! I was wondering, since you’re pointing out that hardcovers of “Chain of Gold” will have the special content, does that mean that first edition paperbacks will too?

  3. So sad we’re not getting rune edition for TLH. TDA and TEC were special to get the runed editions. But I’m still hoping Walker books will consider it.

Do you know if the US and UK versions are different? Book Depository is selling both at different prices.

  5. Do you know whether the Book Depository paperback also includes the special content?

  6. Do the book of the tour for “chain of gold include also the first edition?

  7. Is there any news yet if there is going to be an edition with the spine art of this series too? I own all the other series in this edition and want them to match so badly!
