GODFREY GAO CAST AS MAGNUS BANE

The highly-anticipated casting of Magnus Bane did not disappoint as Cassandra Clare announced his casting catapulting a busy news day for Mortal Instruments fans.

The actor/model landed the much sought-after role beating out more than one hundred actors for the part of the High Warlock of Brooklyn.

Godfrey left this message for fans: “I’m as excited  as you are that I get to be a High Warlock of Brooklyn! Can’t wait to meet the rest of the cast members and of course to meet my new fans! Loving the support, thank you!”

LENA HEADEY CAST AS JOCELYN FRAY

Lena Headey landed the role of Jocelyn Fray, the mother to lead heroine Lily Collins’ Clary.

Here’s what Cassandra Clare had to say: “Jocelyn is a really fun character to write. She’s overprotective (but for a reason) and often really unyielding and unsympathetic, but she’s also a heroine who saved the world from Valentine, endured a lot of loss, and can execute some pretty badass moves. Moral ambiguity is always fun to play and who does it better than (Lena).”

JARED HARRIS CAST AS HODGE STARKWEATHER

The newly Emmy-nominated Jared Harris was the final casting announcement of Thursday’s casting frenzy, but is certinaly one of the stand-out castings so far in the process.

Harris will portray Shadowhunter Hodge Starkweather, who plays a pivotal role in City of Bones.

Here’s what Cassandra Clare had to say: “Hodge is also a really complicated character. He’s not entirely bad, not entirely good. He’s a brilliant man led down a bad path a long time ago and he can’t turn back, but he does love those kids he tutored.”

CASSANDRA CLARE ADDRESSES FUTURE ALEC CASTING

Despite the three major castings this past week, fans are still anxious to learn who will play our blue-eyed Shadowhunter Alec Lightwood. Cassandra Clare addressed the concern on Tumblr saying that “there isn’t anything to tell you. Most of the cast is cast, the rest is subject to negotiations that are ongoing.”

She did say that the actors for the major roles (Alec, Valentine and Luke) are near final negotiations so fingers crossed their castings will become known soon.

CITY OF BONES FILMING MOVED TO AUGUST 20

Filming on The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which was initially scheduled to begin on August 15, has been pushed back a few days to August 20, as confirmed in a press release from Sony Pictures.

A majority of filming will take place in Toronto and some will take place in New York.

CITY OF BONES GRAPHIC NOVEL GETS A RELEASE DATE

The City of Bones graphic novel finally has a release date. 

The first issue in an eight-issue series by Th3rd World is slated for a May 7, 2013 release.

ALEC & SIMON ADVANCE TO SECOND ROUND OF YA CRUSH TOURNEY

The first round of YA Sisterhood’s YA Crush Tourney has concluded and Alec and Simon have completed the sweep for Team Cassie. They have advanced to the second round, the Superior Sixteen.

Next week, Will, Jem and Magnus will compete in the second round of the YA Crush Tourney.

CASSANDRA CLARE SHARES YA CRUSH TOURNEY EXTRAS

Every time one of her Shadowhunter Chronicles boys is up in the YA Crush Tourney, Cassandra Clare promised fans a snippet or deleted scene specific to that character.

This week brought a pair of deleted scenes from The Mortal Instruments, including the original draft version of the Jace-Alec kiss in City of Glass and a deleted scene from City of Lost Souls featuring Simon, Jordan and Isabelle.

FIRST WORDS OF ‘CLOCKWORK PRINCESS’ PROLOGUE REVEALED

At a signing in Rhinebeck, NY, on July 15, Cassandra Clare treated the crowd of 200 fans to the first reading of the Clockwork Princess prologue. Fans were asked to refrain from recording any of the reading, but a journalist at Huffington Post jotted down the first couple of sentences and shared them on his blog:

London 1873.

“Will?” Charlotte Fairchild eased the door of the Institute’s training room open. “Will, are you in there?”

A muffled grunt was the only response.

The door swung all the way open, revealing a wide, high-ceilinged room on the other side.

MOVIE MONDAY: PANGBORN AND BLACKWELL

This week’s Movie Monday focused on the roles that Pangborn and Blackwell will play in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, as well as the casting of Kevin Durand (Pangborn) and Robert Maillet (Blackwell) in their respected roles.

Several popular fan sites, including TMI Source, sounded off with their expectations.

ROBERT SHEEHAN PRANKS JAMIE CAMPBELL BOWER

One thing that Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and Cassandra Clare all agreed on was how Simon-y Robert Sheehan was. And his chemistry with Lily and Jamie was just the icing on the cake to land him the role of Clary’s best friend in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

Clare told fans about a funny moment in which Robert pranked Jamie about the role of Jace. The chemistry between these two is outstanding and it’s no doubt going to shine on the big screen.

RUMOR: CITY OF BONES RELEASE DATES SET FOR U.K., GERMANY

According to ScreenSlam.com, and also stated on IMDB.com, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones will be released in the U.K. on August 23, 2013, and in Germany on August 29, 2013.

I’ve contacted Sony Pictures for confirmation on this rumor. I will let you know when I hear back.

The film has a confirmed release date set for the U.S. on August 23, 2013.
