Cassandra Clare talks Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and casting updates
With filming on The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones set to begin in roughly a month, fans are as anxious as ever to learn the remaining cast.
But other news, like the unveiling of the official title treatment, has kept the fandom busy.
Cassandra Clare spoke to Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower, who are currently in Toronto working on pre-production for City of Bones, and she said that “they’re very sweet. And very excited to be in Toronto.”
“They seem really really happy to be where they are,” Clare wrote.
Clare also said that during their conversation they discussed Simon, who has yet to be cast.
Here’s what we know:
- Clare confirmed that there are “quite a few someones” up for the role of Simon
- Logan Lerman is a definite “no” for Simon, as he is busy while City of Bones is filming
- Clare would be surprised if Simon weren’t cast within the next week or two
- She also has her favorites, but isn’t spilling any details

- Jocelyn has been cast–they’re just “working her schedule out.”
- There are actors in line for the role of Magnus
- Clare “really really” likes the actor cast as Alec
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones will hit theaters on August 23, 2013.

Yay, I can’t wait for Simon! And no offence, but I’m so glad Logan is going to be Simon. He doesn’t look anything like how I pictured him! Oh, and I hope Christian Cooke is going to be Alec!
I’m one of those HELL NO people when it comes to the casting of Jace. But hey, I’m a fan, so imma watch it.. I’m just probably gonna cringe rather then swoon when he’s on screen… Sorry

I’m glad that all these parts are being looked at… But what about Valentine? D: He’s the main bad guy, shouldn’t he be one of the first people?
How can there be scheduling problems for Jocelyn’s actress! She has about two scenes and then spends the rest of the time offscreen or in a coma. They’ll probably use a younger actress for any flashback scenes so that’s got to be less than two week’s filming tops for older Jocelyn and that’s being generous. This actress better be super busy and sought after if she can’t fit in that amount of time. ROFL!
I can’t wait to see who Magnus and Alec is! And what type of Schedule problems with Jocelyn’s actor?
