Aidan Turner, CCH Pounder cast as Luke, Madame Dorothea in ‘City of Bones’
Get ready to welcome two new members to the Mortal Instruments family.
Cassandra Clare announced two exciting new castings for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
Aidan Turner has been cast as Luke Garroway.
He was terrific in Being Human and there’s massive buzz about his upcoming role in the Hobbit. He’s Irish so perhaps he and Robert Sheehan can sit around and talk about Irish things.
Also, CCH Pounder has been cast as Madame Dorothea.
You may know her from The Shield. Or The X-Files. Or Warehouse 13. Or ER. Or The West Wing. Or pretty much every cool show in the known universe. Our director’s wanted to work with her for ages and I think she will be amazing. Welcome, CCH!
Turner and Pounder join Lily Collins (Clary), Jamie Campbell Bower (Jace), Robert Sheehan (Simon), Jemina West (Isabelle), Godfrey Gao (Magnus), Lena Headey (Jocelyn), Jared Harris (Hodge), Kevin Durand (Pangborn) and Robert Maillet (Blackwell) in the cast.
Filming on The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones begins August 20 and the film is slated for an August 23, 2013 theatrical release in the U.S.

O_O Aidan is too young to be Luke, he is 10 years older than Lena Headey (Jocelyn) I love him, of course… well, I guess they will apply good makeup and he will apply good acting 😀 That’s so exciting!!! I am also pleased about Madame D. being cast like that, I honestly imagined her as a caucasic old OLD woman, but this is much more interesting n_n

I love Aidan Turner, but I agree, Lena Headey is like ten yers older, luckily, makeup can do a lot! Just give us Alec .. cause’ I refuse to believe it’s Kevin Zegers as he’s far too old, he’s the same age as Aidan, yet he’s supposed to play a guy who’s ten years younger! I like Pounder, she looks sort of wicked ..
its NOT Kevin WUHU !!! As far as i understood from Cassie someone asked her about Alec on twitter and she said no one has been cast ass Alec – Besides im pretty sure they are going to keep the british style for the youngsters, and Alec´s age “line” is from 18-25 xD

Great casting. CCH Punder is a fab actress. She will be so muych fun as Dorothea.
Aidan as Luke is perfect. He’s a very good actor and will make a great father figure for Clary and opponent for whomeever they cast as Valentine. He’s a bit young but I think he looks older than his age. I thought he was in his 30s. Maybe werewolves age well? In most books I’ve read featuring werewolves they age at a slower rate.
Another handsome actor too! I think this is one of the best looking casts I’ve ever seen.
Now I can’t wait until they announce Valentine’s actor.

Holy cow it’s mrs.fredrick from warehouse 13. Don’t watch being human much so I don’t know him but he’s kind of a good Luke. But I thought of someone as Luke. I think it’s a little weird that CCH is Dorothea cause she’s a good guy in warehouse 13 and Dorothea is a bad guy it’s different and odd.

It’s kinda weird that Aidan is only 29 when his character is 38, but hey, that’s the magic of Hollywood. And Jared Harris is 50-51 when Hodge is around 40. And again, like I’ve said in pretty much all of my casting comments, if Cassandra is excited about them being cast, then I shall remain optimistic that they shall accurately portray the characters we all know and love so much.
Cassie said that Luke is 36. Not 38.
Even if Cassandra wasn’t excited about a certain someone being cast, she’d still be excited….her book turned into a movie = a big deal! So, only Alec is left…..hope church gets cast…..
Oh and I thought Aiden was in his early 30’s not late 20’s. He does look the part, scruffy hair and facial hair….albeit 10 years too young….much like Hodge being 10 years too old! Oh well, only minor things. I still think Alex P would’ve been a better Jace….

you people who always say he should do it piss me off to no end. you dont have to like the cast but shut up about it. you put a sour mood on the whole movie. just be happy that its been made into a movie
AGREED besides I thought Alex P was TO adultish he didn’t look angelic at all Jamie has a natural sort of beauty. Also Alex P is kind of ugly.
Only minor things for age and yet you are the same people who are nonstop complaining ‘O o o o I wish Alex P was playing Jace. Jamie’s not pretty enough. But the age thing is fine I mean after all I don’t need to COMPLAIN.’

personally i don’t imagine him likle that at all, sort of a dissapointment for me but usually i come round when movies come out. and hodge i think is fine looking a bit older, the books always are talking about how he aged more than the rest of the circle

Great casting, Aidan is a wonderful actor he was amazing in “Hattie” and “Desperate Romantics” too. He’s versatile and talented and will made a great Luke Garroway.
I love Aidan i think he’s a fantastic actor, i loved him in being human, he’s not the luke i thought of in my head but I’m happy.
Now we just need Alexander Skarsgard to be cast as Valentine and everything will be perfect! ❤ LOVE the choice of Aidan as Luke – I think he'll be brilliant despite his age; he's amazing in Being Human and I'm really glad he's getting out there a bit more! Never seen CCH in anything but she totally looks the part – this is the best casting so far, I think (possibly besides Jace) so very very happy! PLEASE SKARSGARD AS VALENTINE ❤

I really love Aiden as Luke he’s great in Being Human so I have full faith despite his age. I really don’t think it will be an issue and he does look a little older anyway.
He’d be so perfect – he could do the whole ice cold, arrogant thing so well but when Valentine has his rare almost-nice moments he’d be so amazing at those too and I think he looks the part so perfectly – I’ve hoped so much for him to play Valentine that I’ll be disappointed in anyone else lol
I think Aidan will suit Luke more in the other books when he’s the leader of the pack – he pulls of the scruffy, tough look really well 🙂 Such a good choice though, so so pleased!
I think Aidan Turner is too young for Luke (considering Lena Headey), but he’s so hot that I’d have to forgive him that. 🙂

alec is WAY more important than valentine for casting i mean,
LOL! What? In what world is Alec more important than Velantine? Alec doesn’t do anything in City of Bones except act like a bitch towards Clary, pine after Jace and get his arse kicked. His character barely has any influence on the plot at all. Valentine is the main antagonist and is the reason why pretty much everything happens from the first page of the book. Even in his absence he influences the actions and decisions of the main characters like Jace, Clary, Hodge, Jocelyn and Luke and drives the plot all the way through to the right through to the climax where he is central.
In fact I don’t mind Alec as a character but as far as the main characters go he really doesn’t do much throughout the books at all. I suppose he is useful as a means of getting Magnus to help them but beyond that pretty much every other character is more useful and relevant to the main storyline than him.
Bt he’s the character people identify with more. He’s who people love.
Yes but Valentine is the one the entire plot hinges on – without him there wouldn’t be a book or a film, so personally I’d say he’s a more important character. Though he’s honestly my favourite character so I might be somewhat biased…
I must admit Valentine is omnipotent, though, Alec is irreplaceable, saying he is barely useful, is like saying Isabelle is just a pretty ornament: NOT true at all.
look i understand that just as much as you do, it is just i am looking forward to alec casting at the moment, because there has not really been any rumours or news for valentine yet. when there is i will be really excited. and if these movies do well longterm, alec wil be more impoortant than valentine, because vALENTINE WILL BE DEAD, but they might make heaps of flashbacks or something, you never know.

i did mean by the way that i was looking forward to alecs casting more, and i understand everything you have said in the above, you didn’t have to be all rude and stuff but i meant i prefer alec as a character, and it isn’t all about this movie, if it does well than they will do either the trilogy or all six. and valentine is only in 3 of 6 books, as a living person i mean, and alec is becoming more important. it doesn’t really hugely change the plot if valentine doesn’t look picture perfect, as long as the colours are right. but it is important that alec looks right, or as good a casting there can be, especially because he ties into the ID series. cassie clare even said so herself about alec.
with the casting, they can change how a person looks, but they cant change whether or not they are a good actor, and that is the important thing. and i am looking forward the valentine casting aswell, it is just that alec was cast ages ago and they havent revealed it yet.

That’ s OK if you had said you were looking forward to Alec’s casting the most but in the post you said Alec’s casting was WAY more important than Valentine which was why I got upset as that isn’t true for the books or the films. That’s like saying Voldemort’s casting is less important than the supporting characters in Harry Potter. But now you’ve explained so it’s cool :-). I know Alec has some enthusiastic fans. I am very excited about Valentine’s casting. He will have to be very impressive to make our newly cast sexy Luke look like a second choice :-D.
yeah, i’m not like a HUGE fan of alec but i just would luv it if the characters look right, as in to the books because it is pretty hard to get your own perfect person seeing as everyone imagines the characters in their own way. and i just think it is just that little bit more important that alec looks right than valantine, though valentine still has to look awesome and be good at the “looks” and stuff, you know what i mean

Very surprised that Aidan Turner is taking a bit part. Thought he was ready to headline a movie now. Then there’s Resonance, the mysterious series that seems to be on hold in UK. What’s he doing about that?
