After what could only be described as a mind-blowing day for the MORTAL INSTRUMENTS fandom, the day culminated with the release of the full teaser trailer for THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES (due out August 23, 2013).

I love the stele and the way they’re creating runes, I love Jamie (of course, but everyone already knows this!), love everything, everything…I even don’t mind that Valentine’s hair isn’t white as much as I thought I would! I’m just feeling way too much excitement right now and can’t write anymore! 🙂

That was such an epic trailer. I am in awe of everyone working on that movie that they were able to put together a trailer of that much action and special effects already!! I am with some of the others…bit bummed there was no Magnus but shirtless Jace throwing on a rune there made up for that one 😉

This looks amazing and all and I love the books sooooo much. But what is with the flame thrower??? I am pretty sure that a flame thrower would not be a shadowhunter’s weapon of choice, considering the Iron Sisters don’t make flamethrowers…I hope that this is only a slip up and isn’t the start of a movie series that strays entirely too far from the books and their brilliant story line.
Also, the poltergeist type demon seems a bit cliche, thats just in my opinion. Where are the shax demons, iblis demons, hydra demons and other demons a like.
I guess I just love the book series so much that my expectations are extremely high. This is only a minute or so of footage, so who can really make judgments at this current time?
All that aside though, it looks amazing and I am sooo excited for the film’s release.

Can I please get some other people’s opinions on Valentine? He looks like a freaking tribal warrior as opposed to a sleek, threatening shadowhunter…and did anyone else notice his hair is brown…and he has a freaking ponytail.

I think Valentine is so much scarier in the book, where Cassandra has described him as a sleek but ice cold and dangerous gentleman. I don’t have an issue with his hair color, but I don’t like this shabby warrior type. Also have to say I don’t like Isabelle with the flame thrower. What’s wrong with the good old electrum whip?
Isabelle does have a whip in the trailer, if you pause, you can briefly see it in the Hotel Dumort sequence. The flamethrower is a bit odd. But yeah he doesn’t feel at all like the Valentine from the books. I’m just really curious as to why they would change him so drastically. Not to mention Jonathan Rhys Meyers looks way too young to be Jace’s dad in the movie.
I just can’t take the wait any longer. I’M SO EXCITED.
Loving Jamie as Jace. The backflip was awesome, his accent was sexy and his creeping past the coffee shop kind of made me laugh, even if it wasn’t supposed to. 🙂
And no matter what anyone says, I loved the flame blasting gun thing. It was truly awesome. Jemima as Isabelle is great. A true badass, she is.
Everyone complaining about the demons and lack of CGI effects, Cassandra Clare revealed in the commentary version of the trailer that this was made literally 2 days after the finished filming. They haven’t done the CGI effects. At all. All of what we see in the trailer was what they did right then and there doing filming. Including Jamie’s flip scene. Which she said she was thinking while seeing it, “What possessed him to do something like THAT?” lol
But…LOVE IT!!! Jace and Clary’s little scenes made me day! Love how we got a preview of Jace talking about Clary with Alec. Especially with Alec asking, “What is it about her?” and Jace saying, “She’s different.” I think this will REALLY show us a more in depth view of Jace’s feelings for Clary from his POV which we never got in the novels except from CC’s bonus content. Which I am SOOO excited about! Wish we could have seen a quick glimpse at the Greenhouse scene though. Unless that requires CGI for the flower’s blossoming all at once part of the scene.
And….NO MAGNUS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! WHAT?!?!?!?!?!
Was SERIOUSLY hoping to have a scene involving freaking MAGNUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Sighs* Oh well…but we sure better have a scene having him in it in the NEXT trailer or movie sneak peek or something! I NEED my Magnus or, better yet…a MALEC scene!!!

omg omg Stop it. I thought I was ready to watch this, but I wasn’t. I just died. It killed me. I’m too excited; it is perfection. I love the seraph blade and the way it glows/makes that noise, just how I pictured! Jace, Alec, and Simon in the same minute and a half is an overdose of hotness. Clary is truly perfect, and Isabelle’s flame thrower was a genius addition, she looks so gordeous/deadly. Hodge is SO Hodge. And ah crap, Valentine is highly attractive.
OMG Loved the trailer, loved the cast especially Jace. I knew from the very beginning that Jamie would be the BEST Jace EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been re-reading and re-reading the books. Now I will keep re-watching this trailer. That will have to keep me happy until next August.

I want to scream in intense excitement because of my history with this series, but I know how teaser trailers are formatted. Here’s my response: dull, reminds me of The Series of Unfortunate Events, Lily Collins’s scream sounds like Jennifer Lawrence’s Hunger Game wail (very believable), and I know where that graffiti wall is from in Toronto. I’m more or less scared, because, it just looks like an Urban Fantasy novel gone movie failure. I think what made The Hunger Games and Harry Potter more successful as adaptations were their genres. Hunger Games is more Sci-Fi rather than Urban fantasy and Harry Potter is more strict fantasy than anything else. So far, every actual Urban Fantasy adaptation has been pretty much a joke and failure once the entire film was screened to the audience.
You might say I’m criticising too quickly – I’m just more or less stating the fact that other fans will not. Right now, other fans are probably pissing their pants. I’m bloody EXCITED and want to start on my Shadowhunter cosplay right now. But, even still, I know how these type of films work and I’m going to continue to criticize it until I’m proven otherwise.
Simon…ugh, the acting is looking IFFY. Ergggh. And, HAHA, if you take a good look at the battle sequence at the end…No, Clary’s face, just, no. No. -face palm- This is all acting unfortunately, since, the dialogue is clearly not awful at all.

actually this movie is more action/horror/fantasy and there will be no evidence that this movie will screw up until the whole is shown in theaters. until then, there is no need for foreshadowing. these series have a huge fanbase and hopefully the movie will be satisfying. it’s pretty epic from the trailer

Oh, I also really like the colour toning of this film. It’s a pinkish, purple and blue hue (which is generally not used in film), but looks really pretty…it’s different.

It was so beautiful. And amazing. And incredible. And fantastic. And I love Lily Collins now. Her scream was etched into my mind! She did a fantastic job and I am so proud of her. And the way Jamie Campbell Bower looked at her during the scenes – it was perfect. Beyond perfect actually. And their accents! Unf. Perfect. Jemima West’s outfit – perfect. Robert Sheehan being ao lost and confused – perfect. They picked a perfect cast imo. Amazing. Can’t WAIT for August 23rd, 2013!

That. Was. Amazing. I love the “Welcome to the City of Bones” line at the end. That was the best way to end it. I can’t wait!!! 🙂 I have honestly been worried if the movie would turn out to be good or not, considering so many book adaptations have been horrible, an example being the Eragon movie, but this has seriously reassured me! Dying waiting! 😀

I just have one question Jace obviously has an accent but I thought the Lightwoods were going to have an accent to based on that interview with Lily because to me it didn’t sound like they had accent, but I don’t care either way, I was just wondering.
No, I think your right. I didnt hear Alecs accent cause he only spoke one line ‘shes going to get us all killed’. But Alec moved to New York when he was a toddler and Issy was born in New York, so their accents would have diluted by now. Jace lived in Idris till he was ten, eleven? I cant recall. But his accent would remain.
Whether it’s English or Austrian or whatever, it was PERFECT! God, Jamie as Jace knocked me out! He was controlled, wary, and definitely confident. He nailed Jace! I especially loved the part where Clary sees Hace at the coffee shop abd she hides behind Simon, her eyes teary and afraid. we like to think of Clary as a strong girl but she’s afraid she’s going crazy and seeing mysterious murderers. lily equally impressed me. God, the whole cast was perfect. They seem to understand their character. Cant wait to see Simons humor in action.

Fellow shadowhunters, dont get caught up with tiny details from a teaser trailer and just enjoy how awesome everything is. I just hope we’ll get a Malec scene in the next one.

people, its a small trailer for a movie that is at least 9 months away, the director said that the next trailer will have more but they barelly wrapped up filming like days ago so we should count ourselves lucky to even get this peek. Yeah the whole Valentine thing is bothersome but hell they change tons of things all the time. In the vampire Diaries Elene was a blond but i like the show either way.
Plus If Cassandra Clare: the author of the series is ok with what they changed then really it shouldnt be a problem. the movie will be great eithe way, i still will go see it 10 times till i get the DVD
TV shows never stay true to the books example True Blood. Like I pointed out Valentine rebelled against The Clave an establishement dressing him like a Wall Street Corporate tycoon does not scream rebel, this does.
I disagree with you Adriana. I too would have prefered to see Valentine protrayed as the sleek well dressed man he was in the book. Here’s a CoA quote direct from the man himself:

Chilling, isn’t it? That’s how I always pictured Valentine. Evil but not obviously so. An evil full of subtlety and secrecy, a well dressed sophisticated man, who is all the more evil for his well-to-do appearance.

Yeah i wanted Valentines hair white, so i can see the resemblence of future Sebastian,
but from my from them changing details in my favorite books turned movies like Carrie, Speak, Running with Scissors, Series of unforunate Events,Flowers in th Attic and Blood and Chocolate, i dont judge details they change, as long as the actors match their Characters personalty i will get over it.

Those who are complaing about Valentine’s hair color? Elena Gilbert of the Vampire Diaries is a blonde in the books, Lafattyate from True Blood dies in the first book and he is alive on the show.
That’s exactly what we said : It’s upsetting at first, but since they are great actor, it will be just a detail. And Vampire diaries is not a good example, the serie has very few things in common with the books.
However I don’t mind when the story changes a little, but when a character doesn’t have the features that make him special, we have every right to be upset 🙂
Just think about how you would have react if they’ve made a Black haired Jace, or even a Blond haired isabelle 🙂

Ok so I finally got to watch it (Didnt show it during Breaking Dawn and I was totally gutted! Thank the Gods for Youtube!) and I’ve watched it about ten times in a row. Clarys non-red hair still bugs me. I’m a redhead and thought that finally we were getting a kickass red-haired heroine, but no. However, Jamie as Jace….OMFG the stare, the leather, the way he kicks the crap out of demons and handles that seraph blade, that intense stare….all of those make me want to do things to him that I can’t describe here because they are just so naughty! Sorry but Alec Pettyfur would have looked far too ken doll, whereas Jamie is real, and tough, and angsty and sexy as hell! Go Jamie! I freaking love this trailer, it is totally epic. Just one thing….it’s not a complaint butis it just me, or have they changed parts of the book? Like added in stuff? It’s a while since I’ve read it so I could be wrong…

I was one of the ones who was unsure about the casting of Jamie as Jace. I’m sad to say I questioned his hotness. And then when set pictures started coming out I still wasn’t convinced. You know what I think it was?
I think he doesn’t photograph well. People might argue this, I’m sure many will (he has modeled after all). But for me at least, and maybe many like me, I think that was the problem.
When I see him in motion it’s a totally different story. I am very excited for this movie. Not to see it exactly (I’ve read the series, I have vivid mental pictures, I’m eagerly awaiting the last installment), I am excited for others to see it. I’m excited to see this movie be insanely popular and to hear not just my book-reading friends but also my movie-going friends discussing it.
tldr; Happy to see Jamie doing a great job. And generally excited.
Agree !!!! When I first heard that he was Jace I was worried he wouldn’t portray him as in the books but now i am totally covinced. He looks amazing as Jace 🙂
HOLD THE PRESSES: I don’t think Simon will be turning into a rat in the movie. I predict he’ll end up at the DuMort through some other means. Check out 1:12 (guy in cage, you’ll also see some people coming up from under the stairs on the right if you look closely for the green light) and then check out 1:25 shirtless Simon at the Dumort. Looks like the same guy, no?
This isn’t hard evidence that Simon isn’t going to be a rat, maybe they realized what he was a stuffed him in that cage. But I really do think that’s Robert/Simon in both shots.

Very disappointed!!! I just saw Breaking Dawn Part 2 and there is NO City of Bones teaser trailer in Canada, at least not here in Quebec…….So sad 😦 At least I got to see Jamie as Caius 🙂

I’ve always been in love with him. ❤ Loved him in Camelot too. But I think Jace is going to be his ultimate best performance. He has Jace's character and personality dead on. He always gets so into his characters. He is simply perfection.
